Learn Italian Through Cinema, Music and the Arts - New!

Before watching the film, there will be an introduction of the plot, the protagonists, and the historical context in which the film is set; After watching the film, we will discuss about selected scenes to enhance comprehension and learn new vocabulary, sometimes working in groups.

Italian through cinema aims to be a way to learn about Italy and its culture through the eyes of some of the great directors, composers and famous artists, who have made the Italian culture appreciated throughout the world.

Course Outline:

This course is a thematic workshop where learners can find an interesting and fun way to learn the Italian language and deepen their knowledge of the Italian culture.
Week 1 and 2: Film 1 – Pane e tulipani (Bread and tulips) (with English subtitles)
Week 3 and 4: Film 2 – Benvenuti al sud (Welcome to the south)
Week 5: Italian song 1 (reading comprehension and sing together with transcript)
Week 6: Italian song 2 (reading comprehension and sing together with transcript)
Week 7 and 8: reading (Italian/English) “Le ville venete”, architectural masterpieces in the Veneto region.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Comprehension Improvement of the Italian language
  • Acquisition of conversational skills in Italian
  • Authentic involvement in the Italian culture with a personal enrichment—not just linguistic.

About the Tutor:

'Antonella is a passionate teacher with strong communication skills, who has considerable experience in teaching Italian to the highest levels. She is fluent in Italian and English and have a strong understanding of the Italian culture.

Antonella has acquired a lot of experience in planning and organising Italian lessons to implement effective teaching and learning, adopting various teaching strategies to encourage student participation and motivation.

Antonella holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Education and a Bachelor of Science (Human Biology). She likes swimming, sewing and cooking.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
