International Student Experience St George & Sutherland Community College

International Student Experience

Your Student Experience

From your first day to graduation, you are at the centre of everything we do. As an international student at SGSCC, you get a friendly place to study, support to keep you on track, and the everyday help that makes settling into a new country feel easy.

You learn in small classes where your trainers know your name. You can drop in to see them often, and book extra time whenever you need a hand. It is your study, your pace, your goals, and we are beside you the whole way.

Grow more than your qualification: our Enrichment Program

Your skills grow inside the classroom. Your confidence grows outside it. Every term, our Enrichment Program gives you real experiences that build the soft skills employers value and help you feel at home in Sydney:

•    Welcome to Australia orientation, so you start with friends and know your way around
•    Guest speakers from industry, so you learn from people doing the work
•    Speaking with Confidence workshops, to build your English and your voice
•    Teamwork and Leadership workshops, to grow the skills every career needs
•    Financial know-how sessions with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, to manage money with confidence
•    Excursions, to explore Sydney and make memories along the way

Every activity is designed to help you put your best foot forward, in your studies, your placement and your future career.

Student Support: help whenever you need it

Our friendly Student Services team is here for you, and no question is too big or too small. We take the time to understand your situation and give you clear, practical advice that fits your life. Whenever you need help, just ask. We are looking forward to meeting you.

Everyday life support

Starting life in a new country comes with a lot of firsts. We help you with the practical steps, so you can focus on your studies:
•    Getting your Tax File Number and opening a bank account
•    Building your resume and preparing for interviews, to grow your job-ready skills
•    Finding a share house or other accommodation
•    Buying or renting a mobile phone
•    Ideas for leisure, travel and things to do around Sydney

Support around the clock

Your safety matters to us, day and night. Every student gets an emergency contact number that is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you have a medical emergency that is life-threatening, a member of our team will go with you to the hospital, so you are never on your own.
