Skills for Life

Build confidence, independence and practical life skills

At SGSCC Disability, we believe every person should have the opportunity to develop the skills, confidence and independence to live the life they choose. Our Day Program and Building Your Skills (BYS) program provide engaging, personalised opportunities to learn new skills, increase independence and work towards individual goals in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Whether you're developing everyday living skills, building confidence in the community, improving communication, or learning new routines, our experienced team will support you every step of the way.

Building Your Skills (BYS)

The Building Your Skills (BYS) program combines practical life skills development with learning opportunities delivered in partnership with the SGSCC Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
Designed to build confidence, independence and future opportunities, BYS supports participants to develop valuable skills in a supportive and inclusive environment while working towards their individual goals. Participants can explore areas of interest, build their capabilities and, where suitable, access training opportunities that enhance their confidence and readiness for further education, volunteering or employment pathways.

Through BYS, participants can:

  • Develop practical everyday living skills
  • Build confidence and independence
  • Strengthen communication and social skills
  • Learn in real-world and community-based settings
  • Explore areas of interest and personal growth
  • Work towards individual NDIS goals
  • Access learning opportunities through SGSCC's RTO
  • Develop skills that support future education, volunteering and employment aspirations

Supported Learning Pathways

As part of SGSCC, participants may have opportunities to engage with learning and skill development activities through our Registered Training Organisation (RTO), providing exposure to structured learning environments and pathways for ongoing personal development.
Our team works closely with each participant to ensure learning experiences are tailored to their interests, strengths and goals, helping them build confidence at their own pace.

Why Choose BYS?
BYS offers more than skill development. It creates opportunities for participants to:

  • Increase independence in everyday life
  • Build confidence to try new experiences
  • Develop meaningful social connections
  • Learn practical and transferable skills
  • Explore future pathways and opportunities
  • Achieve goals that matter to them
  • Every participant's journey is different, and our person-centred approach ensures supports are tailored to individual needs, aspirations and goals.
