Student Information and Policies

Everything you need to know before and during your studies. Please read this information, and our Student Handbook, before you enrol. Have a question? Ask your trainer or any of our staff anytime.

About us

St George & Sutherland Community College (SGSCC) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 7091), registered by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and trading as SGSCC Vocational Education. We are also a CRICOS provider (03122K). We are proud members of Adult Learning Australia and Community Colleges Australia

Student Handbook

Our Student Handbook covers your enrolment, how courses are delivered and assessed, our key policies, and what you can expect from us and what we ask of you. Please read it before you enrol and refer back to it during your studies. Download the Student Handbook

Our policies

We are open about how we operate. You can read all of our student policies here:

What we can and can't promise

We are responsible for delivering compliant training and assessment, and for issuing your AQF Certificate or Statement of Attainment.

Being clear and honest, we cannot guarantee that you will:

  • Complete your qualification (you must be marked Competent in every unit)
  • Complete it in any way other than our planned training and assessment approach for that qualification, and the training package or accredited course requirements
  • Gain a particular job at the end of your course.

Your training is protected. If SGSCC ever closes or stops delivering your course, we will advise you of your rights, how you are protected, and how you can continue and complete your studies.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • Be treated fairly and with respect, in line with equity and anti-discrimination law and the Disability Standards for Education 2005
  • Privacy, dignity and confidentiality
  • Quality courses that recognise your individual needs and learning styles, with no hidden costs
  • Complain through the proper channels
  • Appeal the result of an assessment
  • Be protected from all forms of harassment
  • Truth in advertising
  • Know about the policies that affect you
  • A safe and clean place to learn.

Your responsibilities

We ask you to:

  • Treat other students and staff with respect and fairness, including people with disability
  • Read and understand the general information in the Student Handbook
  • Behave appropriately and respect the property of the College, host schools and others
  • Not swear in classrooms or other learning areas
  • Not behave in any way that could offend, embarrass or threaten others
  • Provide your own course requirements where needed (when notified)
  • Attend regularly and be on time
  • Give accurate information about yourself and tell us if anything changes
  • Not use mobile phones or similar devices in class (except as a translation aid in English programs)
  • Not plagiarise, collude or cheat in any assessment task
  • Submit assessments by the due date, or ask for an extension if you have exceptional circumstances
  • Follow normal safety practices and the directions of our staff.

Our commitment

The College may remove students who behave inappropriately or do not respect people or property, refuse enrolment as permitted by law, and charge course fees. In return, we will:

  • Provide a safe environment
  • Protect you from financial exploitation
  • Protect your privacy and confidentiality
  • Provide physical access where our facilities and resources allow
  • Tell you about the policies that affect you
  • Advertise honestly and truthfully
