Community Connections
Building relationships, opportunities and a sense of belonging
At SGSCC Disability, community participation is at the heart of what we do.
We know that some of the most meaningful outcomes happen when people form friendships, discover new interests and become connected to their community. That's why we work alongside a range of local organisations and partners who help create opportunities for our participants to learn, grow and achieve their goals.
These relationships provide access to experiences that build confidence, develop skills and create genuine connections beyond our programs.
Community Partnerships
The Therapy Studio has been a valued partner in delivering the Sociability Program at SGSCC. Through this program, participants have developed communication skills, built friendships and gained confidence in social situations while connecting with others in a supportive environment.
Fleet Healthcare supports many of our participants through both group fitness sessions and individual physiotherapy services. These opportunities help participants improve their physical wellbeing, work towards personal health goals and maintain an active lifestyle.
Our partnership with Activus helps participants access educational opportunities by providing transport to and from college, making it easier for individuals to pursue learning, develop new skills and work towards greater independence.
The Illawarra Art Studio has been a strong supporter of SGSCC, particularly through our annual Art-itude Exhibition. Their support has provided participants with opportunities to showcase their creativity, celebrate their achievements and share their artwork with the wider community.
Many of our participants have built valuable skills and confidence through opportunities with Civic. Participants are actively involved working in the onsite café and as part of the cleaning crew, gaining practical workplace experience, developing routines and building confidence in real-world environments.
Sport plays an important role in building confidence, friendships and personal achievement. SGSCC proudly supports more than 30 participants who actively compete in Special Olympics programs across a variety of sports. Their dedication and achievements are celebrated throughout our service, with participants recognised on our Special Olympics wall, showcasing the many sporting accomplishments achieved by our community.
Real People. Real Opportunities.
Every connection creates an opportunity.
The relationships we've built with organisations across our community have opened doors for participants to explore new interests, develop confidence and achieve goals they may never have imagined possible.
For some, that means building social confidence through the Sociability Program delivered by The Therapy Studio. For others, it's gaining workplace experience at Civic, attending college with support from Activist, improving their health and wellbeing through Fleet Healthcare, or showcasing their creativity through Art-itude with the support of Illawarra Art Studio.
One of our proudest achievements is our connection with Special Olympics. More than 30 SGSCC participants actively compete across a range of sports, demonstrating commitment, resilience and determination. Their achievements are celebrated throughout our service, with many recognised on our dedicated wall of achievement.
These experiences are about more than participation. They help people develop confidence, form meaningful friendships, discover new strengths and create pathways to greater independence. Most importantly, they help participants build lives that are rich with connection, purpose and opportunity.
Stronger Through Community
The success of SGSCC Disability is strengthened by the relationships we have built throughout our community. Together with our partners, we continue to create opportunities for participants to learn new skills, pursue their interests, celebrate their achievements and create lasting connections.
Because when people are supported to connect with their community, incredible things can happen.
