This Learn Italian for Beginners – Part 2 Class is a continuation of learning from Italian for Beginners – Part 1 This course is designed for those who would like to continue on from Beginners part 1, or have previous Italian knowledge. Our tutor will provide you with a sound foundation for the basics of the Italian language and its pronunciation. Italy, with its 65% of the world’s art treasure and its ancient history at every corner is one of the most visited countries in the world. Its language is the language of romance, opera, and poetry. Whether you are an art lover, a food lover or you just want to exercise the grey cells, Italian is your language. You will be fascinated by the logic and simplicity of this melodic language. Italian is pronounced exactly the way it is written making it easy to speak and spell. Our classes are conducted in a stress free, friendly and fun atmosphere. Audio visual aids, games and role play are used to facilitate the diverse learning methods.

SGSCC Beginners Language courses are Entry Level, meaning no prior knowledge is required. These courses are geared to the potential tourist, business person and those wishing to improve communication with friends or family who have non-English speaking background.

Course Outline:

  • Learn how to ask and answer questions.
  • Make reservations.
  • Ask for items and prices.
  • Colours.
  • Verb avere (to have) present indicative.
  • Learn the application of “questo, questi” (this and these).
  • Indeterminative articles.

Outcomes:

By the end of Part 2 students should be able to:

  • Read basic dialogues as per textbook.
  • Buy tickets, guides, postcards.
  • Book a table at the restaurant for a specific hour and number of people.
  • Compose simple sentences of their own.
  • Make basic conversation about the weather, family and country.

Prerequisite:

  • You need to have completed Italian for Beginners – Part 1 to enrol in this class or demonstrate your relevant ‘level’ through a conversation with the tutor prior to enrolling.

Materials:

  • For this beginners class you will need to purchase Italianissimo New Edition 1 ISBN 978-0-563-51906-5 beginners book
  • Bring pen and paper
  • The purchase of an Italian dictionary is recommended

About the tutor:

Dr. Janine Burns received her Italian Honours degree at the University of Sydney, where she also obtained her PhD from the Department of Oriental Languages and Cultures. Janine is a fluent Italian and Mandarin Chinese speaker and spent several years living in Rome and Beijing.
Being a non-native speaker Janine has a strong appreciation of the challenges that students may have when they first begin learning a new language.

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
