Are you 12 to 15 years old? Do you love music? Do you want to impress your family and friends by strumming along with the songs you love? Do you want to challenge yourself, increase your confidence and find a new hobby? Do you dream of being a guitar god but don’t know where to start? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this is the course for you.

This Beginners Guitar Course is designed for early teens who have never played the guitar before but have a passion for music and a desire to learn. It is also for those aged 12-15 who tried guitar before but for whatever reason it just didn’t click and they would like to start again. It doesn’t matter what style of music you enjoy; this course will provide you with a solid foundation on which to build your guitar journey. No prior formal musical knowledge or experience required.

Join your enthusiastic, patient, and supportive tutor in a fun, relaxed, social and safe group with teens your own age, who share similar interests. Inspire creativity, make new friends, build your confidence, and most importantly, enjoy yourself, all while learning the fundamentals of guitar.

Course Outline:

During the course you will:

• Explore various guitar methods and styles.
• Learn how to tune your guitar.
• Learn basic chords.
• Learn to read chord charts.
• Learn to read guitar TAB.
• Learn rhythm and strumming patterns.
• Investigate song structures and their various elements.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

• Tune your guitar.
• Read and utilise chord charts and guitar TAB.
• Play a variety of chords.
• Understand rhythm and strumming patterns.
• Play basic arrangements of several recognisable songs.
• Have a strong foundation in guitar.
• Develop a greater understanding, knowledge, and appreciation of music in general.

About the Tutor:

'From the moment I first picked up a guitar in my early teens, guitar and music became my great passions. The guitar has provided me with many opportunities in my life including the ability to demonstrate my creativity and skill through song writing and live performance. It has also allowed me the privilege of passing on my knowledge and passion through teaching.

In the past I have taught many children and young people to play guitar. My current day job is in the SGSCC Disability section where I have the privilege of facilitating and performing with the music group which is one of the most rewarding things I have done.

When it comes to playing and teaching music my enthusiasm and passion are infectious, whilst my caring, patient and supportive nature make learning a pleasant, easy, and enjoyable experience.
