This comprehensive Introduction to Photography Short Course, is suitable for all levels of Photography, regardless; whether you are a Beginner or not, you have just purchased a new digital camera, to brush up on your skillset, or you just want to restart your journey in Photography.

Learn the fundamentals and the principles of Photography in depth. You will go beyond the ‘full auto’ or program setting on your digital Optical DSLR / Mirrorless / 4/3rds / Superzoom / Bridge camera / Adjustable Compact camera using the Shutter, Aperture, and Manual modes. Learn how to set up, and use your camera properly, and capture truly creative and memorable photographs. This comprehensive course concludes with; Travel photography how to tell a story and get the most of your Photography when you are travelling.

You will also learn how to set up properly and photograph, in colour using the Tutor’s settings on your camera for bolder colour photographs, and the Tutor’s settings in black & white, as it is one of the most dramatic ways to capture a photograph. A maximum of 8 x places for a greater learning experience, and more one time with the tutor.

This comprehensive 4 x week Short Course of 8 hours of learning includes; Week 1 set up at Jannali Centre) and the remainder learning Photography in the field; Weeks 2 to 4 which will be conducted at Jannali and Jannali Station of which has many interesting architectural; aspects and angles, lighting and movement. This allows far greater opportunities to learn; composition, and how to photograph in both colour and black-and-white.

From Week 2 onwards, we will meet at Jannali Station adjacent to the pedestrian crossing on the bend, where Mitchell Ave and Jannali Ave meet, near the bike rack.

Course Outline:

• Week 1 – Jannali Centre

Correct camera set up; ISO, White Balance, Picture Size, How to adjust Picture Styles and then photographing in Colour and Black and White (monochrome). Understanding the difference between Aperture and Shutter speed modes.
Setting up menus, know your camera, recording images, playback and toolbox, Getting it sharp, Focusing and Recomposing – Focus and recompose to create far interesting compositions with little effort.

• Week 2 – Jannali Station

Light, lighting exposure, under and over exposure, high key and low key light, aperture and depth of field.
Flash; how to use your built in flash or accessory flash, to get the most out of your camera, in those situations when you don’t have enough light, or in tricky lighting conditions.

• Week 3 – Jannali StationComposition; Point of View – POV, Framing, Composition and Negative space.

An introduction to using different focal lengths (depending on lens(es) you have), and using your lens(es) properly.

• Week 4 – Jannali Station

Capturing the Moment and Action Photography – set up of Motor drive up, Continuous Focusing mode, Focus Points. Understanding Shutter speeds from slow to very fast – Freezing the Moment, and how Panning lets you create a far more artistic action photograph, with a smoother / blurred background.

Course Outcomes:

What to bring:

Camera Equipment;
PLEASE NOTE

• PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE YOUR battery, batteries with you x 2 if you have them, and please charge them to FULL even if the indicator is 3/4 or 2/3 as it is not enough power, especially if you only have 1 x battery.
• Memory card(s) x 2 if you have them

An extra battery and memory card, are strongly recommended, as your camera will be ON for the most your tutorials, and also reviewing your photographs frequently.
Camera Equipment;
Any adjustable digital camera; DSLR / 4/3rds / Mirrorless / Superzoom / Bridge camera / Advanced Compact camera with;

• RAW / JPEG image capability (JPEG only is fine)
• adjustable ISO/film speed settings
• with adjustable exposure settings; shutter, aperture, and manual exposure i.e. S or TV, A or AV, and M,
• With manual/autofocus capability
• Also if your camera has adjustable picture control/picture style settings i.e. monochrome standard, neutral, etc
• A spare camera body if you have one

Lenses:
Lens(es) for interchangeable cameras:
Any Zoom Lenses you have
Any Prime lens(es) if you have them
If you have any lens with a fast aperture of f1.4 / f1.8 / f2.0 / f2.8 etc these will be very useful for night time photography
Some night photography is done at close quarters + so make sure you also bring your widest zoom lens and or widest wide-angle prime lens or + fisheye lens if you have one.

For night sessions / flash Photography:

• Your internal camera flash is fine for night sessions, but if you have a separate camera flash, please bring that too
• With necessary batteries; fresh alkaline or fully charged – rechargeable batteries

Weather:

A session will run in light rain, to give participants an opportunity to photograph in wet weather. A session will only be postponed to a future date, if heavy weather / thunderstorm / high winds is forecast or it is continuously raining.
