The Art of Storyboarding and Structure - New!

Plot, plan, and build your very own stories in this interactive workshop! Discover the foundations of storyboarding and how to apply them across film, video, and prose. You will then learn how to structure your narratives using plot mechanisms like Freytag’s Pyramid, the Three-Act Structure, and the iconic Hero’s Journey. With an experienced and passionate tutor, you will dive into engaging discussions, exchange insights with like-minded creatives, and gain new skills for your next project. From first-time storytellers to plotting pros, this workshop will help bring your next story to life—on screen or on the page.

Course Outline:

  • The foundations of storyboarding and how to use it in fictional stories (film, video, prose)
  • Basics of plotting a fictional story using the Three-Act Structure, and the importance of each step
  • Freytag’s Pyramid and how to apply it in your stories
  • The Hero’s Journey and its use in popular fiction

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn how to create and plot fictional stories for film, video, and prose
  • Strategies to ignite your creativity and beat writer’s block
  • Gain confidence in a supportive environment with an experienced tutor

About the Tutor:

‘Aylish Dowsett is an award-winning writer, tutor, and copywriter. She teaches creative writing at The Writers’ Studio, The Writing Quarter, Creative Writing Ink, and SGSCC. Her work has been published in Mythrill Fiction, Collider, Honi Soit, Grapeshot, The Quarry, and many others. She loves cats and all things weird and British.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
