Macro Photography Field Trip - Camellia Gardens

Learn creative Macro and Close-Up Photography in this unique Field Trip in the beautiful and intimate Camellia Gardens. It is a great opportunity to learn something new and hone your camera skills. You will be shown how to set up your camera properly, for Macro or Close-Up Photography, using your lens / macro lens and or extension tubes and or close-up filters.

Learn creative Macro and Close-Up Photography in this unique Beginners Field Trip in the beautiful and intimate Camellia Gardens. It is a great opportunity to learn something new and hone your camera skills. You will be shown how to set up your camera properly, for Macro or Close-Up Photography, using your lens / macro lens and or extension tubes and or close-up filters.

Learn how to do handheld creative Macro and Close-Up Photography, how to focus and recompose properly, interpret natural light, framing, composition, and how to review/check your photographs properly.

Students are advised to have either have a lens with close-up capability, and or a close-up filter, and or a set of extension tubes / extension tube and or a macro lens, any of these will enable you to take detailed photos of some of the extremely small flowers and plants. Even if you do not have any of the additional equipment, this field trip is a great introduction to Macro and Close-Up Photography.

Skill Level:

This field trip is suitable for anyone, who can use their camera. You will be able to do this field trip as long as you have an understanding of your camera and controls and or the shutter and aperture settings.

What to bring:

Camera Equipment:

Any adjustable digital camera; DSLR / 4/3rds / Mirrorless camera with.

  • RAW / JPEG image capability
  • Adjustable ISO / film speed settings
  • With adjustable exposure settings; shutter, aperture and manual exposure i.e., S or TV, A or AV and M,
  • With manual / auto focus capability
  • Also, if your camera has adjustable picture control / picture style settings i.e. monochrome standard, neutral etc
  • A spare camera body if you have one
  • Batterie(s) charged and ready x 2 if you have them
  • Memory card(s) x 2 if you have them
  • Lenses: any zoom prime lens semi wide to standard focal length

If you have any of the following, please bring them too.

  • Any close-up kit: either or
  • A macro lens
  • Close up filter(s) that fit the front of your lens +1 +2 +3 etc
  • An extension tube that can be used with most zoom or prime lenses (from 35mm to 200mm) not super wide or super telephoto

and or
A compact advanced adjustable camera
with Close Up / Macro ability i.e. a flower icon
(Check your instruction book or the manufacturer)

  • adjustable ISO / film speed settings
  • with adjustable exposure settings; shutter, aperture and manual exposure i.e. S or TV, A or AV and M,
  • With manual / auto focus capability

What to wear:

As this is an outdoor photography field trip please dress appropriately for the expected conditions. Check www.bom.gov.au/places/nsw/caringbah-south/

Weather:

This field trip will go ahead even if it is raining lightly. Field trips will run regardless of the weather to give students an opportunity to photograph in fine or wet weather. If it is dangerous weather, high winds severe downpour you will be sent an email or text, please keep an eye out for any messages / mail from Neoklis in case the weather changes suddenly. A field trip will only be postponed to a future date if heavy weather / thunderstorm is forecast, or it is continuously raining.

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
