CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support

Care Supervisors are employed in residential facilities where they undertake work related tasks to maintain an individual’s wellbeing through personal care and/or other activities of living. They may also provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people. Work includes supervising others and may include training and support to promote independence and community participation, which may be provided as part of activities and programs in a variety of settings including residential and centre-based programs.
This course qualifies support workers to supervise a group of older people and manage/ coordinate a number of support workers in a team leader role.
This qualification includes:

What you need to know about this course:
- New students are expected to attend a mandatory college orientation before course commencement. Orientation times and dates will be advised after enrolment.
- Classes commence at the beginning of week 1 of each school term
- Students will be accepted into the class throughout the term
- You will need to plan for approximately 5-8 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks
- There is no training during school holidays
- Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
- Resources are provided by SGSCC
- Student lounge available
- WiFi is available
What resources do you need to study from home?
- A computer with internet access for digital learning
- Email access
Course entry requirements:
- There are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course
- You are not required to have a Certificate II or Certificate III level qualification to enter this course
- Recognition for units of competency may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences
- Current National Police Check (arranged through SGSCC)
- Complete an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine that the student has sufficient skills to successfully complete the course
- Access to computer/internet
- Facebook account for private class communication and access to learning resources (assistance creating an account can be arranged through SGSCC)
- Note taking materials
- Unique Student Identifier (can be arranged through SGSCC)
Do you need to complete any work placement hours?
- Yes, you need to complete 120 hours (15 days) in a care service facility, such as aged care home or home and community service.
- SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment.
- Before commencing work placement, you will be required to obtain a current national criminal record check to allow you to work in a care service facility. SGSCC will assist you with this application process.
Will you need to sit for any exams?
- No. This is a competency-based course
- Tell us, then show us you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
- You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 18 units of learning

Assessments are made up by a range of:
- Question & answer
- Research report
- Case study
- Skill demonstration
- Role play
To be deemed competent:
- You will receive clear assessment instructions
- You must complete all assessments to a satisfactory standard as set by your trainer
- These are assessed by your trainer
- Opportunities will be provided for trainers to support students and to resubmit their assessments if required
When you have completed and been deemed competent you can:
- Progress with SGSCC to the CHC42021 Certificate IV in Commmunity Services or CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services.
