West Coast Swing

This smooth style of partner dancing can be danced to Blues, R & B, or even contemporary music. Once you have learned the basic patterns it expands into a dance for all occasions. Come along and try something different. It is also a great way to meet new people, and the health benefits are fabulous.

Course Outline:

Week 1: Learn frame timing and Basic Steps
Week 2 – 7: Continue to earn the frame and timing of the dance making sure you are comfortable with the basic patterns of Push, aside pas and a whip adding variation depending on the ability of the students
Week 8: Revision of the moves learnt in the previous weeks

Course details:

  • It can be couples, or singles and we endeavour to make numbers as even as possible
  • If you are feeling unwell or have any Flu like symptoms or been in any hotspots please do not attend
  • Rotation is encouraged to help with the learning and to create a fun atmosphere or if you just want to stay together that is also understandable
  • Steady pace of learning over 8 weeks that can be done in any sequence
  • Moves from the previous week are reviewed at the start of the following week to help with the retention of moves
  • We teach lead follow techniques handholds, rhythm, timing, framework, connection, styling, safety, footwork, etiquette and floor craft

What to bring:

Wear comfortable shoes (preferably leather soled) that you are able to spin in and light clothing.
Please bring bottled water if you require refreshment

About the tutor:

‘Starting with Ballroom and Latin dancing from 6 years old, and then moving into the Rock "n" roll / Swing world. I love sharing a variety of dance styles with students of all ages. I have been teaching and judging for over 30 year’ Ray
