Watercolour for Beginners - Ocean Inspired Art - New!
In this 6-hour watercolor workshop, we’ll dive into the beauty of the ocean and its fascinating creatures like octopuses and fish. This class is perfect for beginners, providing a relaxed and inspiring environment to explore watercolour techniques while creating vibrant and calming ocean-themed artworks.
You’ll start by learning basic watercolour techniques such as wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and how to layer colours to create the fluidity of water. You will also gain insights into shading and texture techniques to bring the life and movement of marine creatures to your artwork. By the end of the session, you’ll have created a beautiful ocean-inspired watercolour piece and learned techniques that can be applied to many other subjects. Most importantly, you’ll have fun and leave with a sense ofaccomplishment!
Course Outline:
- Introduction to watercolour techniques (wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, gradients)
- Sketching basic ocean creatures (fish, octopus, seaweed)
- Applying colours and creating depth through layering
- Exploring textures for water, scales, and sea creatures
- Final project: Painting an octopus or fish with ocean background

What to bring:
- Watercolour paints : Koh-I-Noor Watercolour Discs (18 Colours) from Ecklersley or Kmart
- Watercolour brushes round size 10 & 3 from Ecklersley or other art stores
- Watercolour paper pad preferably 300 gsm : Reeves Watercolour Pads Size A3 (smooth) from Ecklersley/office works (please bring spares paper if not buying a pad)
- Paint mixing palette (from Kmart or any discount store)
- Pencil for sketching H / HB
- Eraser
- Ruler
- Tea towel / paper towel
- Empty jar to was brushes
- Water in a bottle to wash brushes
- Hair dryer (optional to dry paint quicker)
