Through guided drafting, analysis, and creative development, you will learn how to assess balance, correct fit issues, and transform blocks into garment designs with confidence. We learn all about sleeves, how to alter the fit. We also learn all about collar. By the end of the course, you will have developed refined sleeve blocks and applied them to bodice blocks created in the beginner’s course, This course is ideal for students who have completed a beginners patternmaking course and are ready to expand their technical skills and creative capability.

Course Outline:

• Lesson 1 – Introduction to sleeves
• Lesson 2 – Work on patternmaking activities
• Lesson 3 – Altering sleeve to fit block / toile sleeve
• Lesson 4 – Collar construction
• Lesson 5 – Continue with collars and necklines
• Lesson 6 – Cowl necklines
• Lesson 7 – Bring your own pattern or create a simple pattern
• Lesson 8 – Completing any unfinished work

What to bring:

Patternmaking tools:

• Notebook and pens
• Paper scissors
• Marker red/ black, pencil, rubber, ruler, glue stick
• Cardboard or large sheets of paper for patternmaking x 2 sheet.
• Tape measure.
• Calico (or old sheeting) to make your toile.
• Bring a basic skirt and top pattern for the last lesson.

Sewing supplies:

• Pins
• Thread
• Small scissors for cutting threads
• Fabric scissors

Sewing machine supplies:
Sewing machines are limited so if you prefer your own, you are free to bring.

• Domestic sewing needles
• Plastic bobbins
• Quality sewing thread (Gutterman/ rasant)

'Mora Cura brings over 35 years of experience in the fashion industry to her teaching. She holds an Advanced Diploma in Applied Fashion Design and Technology and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116). After a long career in the industry, Mora transitioned into teaching and now shares her passion for fashion, sewing, and design through practical, beginner-friendly classes. Her aim is to make patternmaking easier to understand and for you to enjoy and get creative.'
