Magical Girls and Giant Robots - Exploring Anime and Manga Drawing

Anime is the most mimicked art style in the world today, and with such a broad scope of storytelling and stylistic methods – it’s no wonder why – with over 12,000 different anime in the world today, there really is something for everyone! Join us in this one-day workshop where you will gain key skills used in character and figure drawing and learn the secrets of capturing that prominent anime style!

Students will explore genre, stylistic variations and how to storyboard and create their own manga comics, we will design characters and scenery, as well as discovering the secrets to fantasy worldbuilding. We will be using inks and traditional art methods to create our outcomes, and cover how to shade, texture, and suggest movement using pigment ink. Bring your Pokemon and call the Sailor Scouts because if you like anime, this class is for you!

About the Tutor:

'My name is Madi Martin, I’m a professional illustrator and founder of apparel and wearable art brand, MadDog Ink. I hold two art degrees, and am a qualified vocational educator with eight years of experience delivering fun and flexible art classes.

I create and design everything from pins to full scale artworks using both digital and traditional illustration methods, inspired by Anime and Pop Art – I’ve exhibited and sold my work everywhere from Broadway in Sydney to Wollongong Art Gallery, frequenting conventions and expos including Gamma in Canberra, and Oddities and Curiosities in Sydney!'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
