This comprehensive Introduction to Photography Course is suitable for all levels of Photography, whether you are a Beginners or just want to brush up on your skillset.
Learn the fundamentals and the principles of Photography in depth. You will go beyond the ‘full auto’ or program setting on your digital Optical DSLR / Mirrorless / 4/3rds / Superzoom / Bridge camera / Adjustable Compact camera using the Shutter, Aperture, and Manual modes. Learn how to set up, and use your camera properly, and capture truly creative and memorable photographs. This comprehensive course concludes with; Travel photography how to tell a story and get the most of your Photography when you are travelling.
You will also learn how to set up properly and photograph, in colour using the Tutor’s settings on your camera for bolder colour photographs, and the Tutor’s settings in black & white, as it is one of the most dramatic ways to capture a photograph. A maximum of 8 x places for a greater learning experience, and more one time with the tutor.
This course will be started in Week 1 at Jannali Campus to acclimatise students to their camera / camera setup and controls. Weeks 2 to 6 will be conducted at Jannali station as there are interesting architectural aspects and angles, lighting and movement, with greater great opportunities to learn composition and to photograph in both colour and black-and-white.
We meet at Jannali Station adjacent to the pedestrian crossing on the bend where Mitchell Ave and Jannali Ave meet, near the bike rack.
Course Outline:
Week 1 – Jannali Centre
Correct camera set up; Picture Styles and how to see in Colour and Black and White (monochrome) Setting up menus, know your camera, recording images, playback and toolbox, Getting it sharp, Focusing and Recomposing – Focus and recompose
Week 2 – Jannali Station
Light, lighting exposure, under and over exposure, high key and low key lighting, aperture and depth of field
Week 3 – Jannali Station
Composition; Point of View – POV, Framing, Composition and Negative space
Week 4 – Jannali Station
Flash; how to use your built in flash or accessory flash, to get the most out of those situations when you don’t have enough light
Week 5 – Jannali Station
Capturing the Moment and Action photography – Motor drive set up Focusing modes, Shutter speeds slow to fast, Freezing the moment and Panning
Week 6 – Jannali Station
Travel photography how to tell a story and get the most of your Photography when you are travelling.

West side of Jannali, closest cross street is Louise Street. There is free onsite parking available and ample on road parking (not metered) if the car park is full.
Public Transport
From Jannali Station walk to the West side along Jannali railway (heading towards Sutherland), the fourth street on the right is Louise Street. Jannali Centre is at the end of Louise Street

Accessible toilet and ground floor wheelchair access available Monday – Friday 9:00am-5:00pm, see Reception for directions to room. After hours and weekends look for the Site Co-ordinator for room directions. Onsite Cafe open Monday to Friday 8:00am-3:00pm, Sat 8:30am – 1:30pm. Outside these hours there are drink/snack vending machines onsite.
