Watercolour Painting with Tamara

Come and learn some watercolour techniques while in a friendly and fun space, learn to draw your ideas in your sketch book and translate to your masterpieces. You can even use a lightbox or trace your image on the window to have an exact replica which will impress everyone. This guided but self directed course gives you the freedom to be expressive or to make realist style paintings. We will cover everything from learning to do washes to details. Having fun with the complete beauty of what watercolour painting is famous for (controlled spontaneity).

Course Outline:

  • you will learn to sketch out your ideas and play with composition.
  • you will learn different brush mark techniques to make your paintings unique.
  • work on a couple of paintings at the same time to allow for drying time.
  • you will work on self directed paintings. Bring You Own image to copy.
  • work towards exhibition at the end of year.

Learning Outcomes:

  • confidently sketch up drawings.
  • learn about tonal graduations in colour.
  • start your paintings in desaturate washes to darker toned layers.
  • have a beautiful body of work you can be proud of in the end.

What to bring:

  • Water Colour Tablets in Pan OR Water Colour Tubes
  • Basic-Eckersley’s Koh-I-Noor watercolour twist Sets Discs or Parker’s/Sydney Art Store Professional watercolour sets Windsor & Newton/Dan Smith/Schmincke varied colour sets including warm and cool primary colours.
  • 1 x gator board (parker’s art store) or Large drawing board/Clip Board
  • 1 x Plastic or ceramic mixing plate or Palette. (no cardboard)
  • Watercolour Brushes – Basic sets are fine (reves sets) or professional Soft haired watercolour brushes 8-10-12 Taklon Round 8-10, Artworks Squirrel 2
  • Blue painters Tape - (Bunnings)
  • Arches watercolour pad 300gsm A4-A3
  • sketch book
  • graphite pencil, sharpener, rubber
  • hairdryer (optional)
  • lightbox (optional)
  • BYO your own Image to work from (landscape/portrait/pet) (if using a lightbox or window to copy the exact image, please have appropriate sized paper to match the size of the image.

About the Tutor:

'Tamara Pottier studied at the National Art School obtaining a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts with a Ceramics Major. Ceramics and Oil Painting are her main practices having been exhibited and represented by Gallery One88 Katoomba since 2018.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
