Zero Waste Workshop

This workshop will give you skills and knowledge for how to adopt a zero-waste lifestyle. Learn about recycling, soft plastics, composting, tips to reduce food waste in the home. Reducing waste in general and how to dispose of household items in the most environmentally friendly way. Fast fashion, how this impacts the environment, and tips to avoid contributing to this. Learn about how what we eat impacts not only your health but the environment and provide tips for how to reduce your carbon footprint three times a day and more.

Course Outline:

  • Week 1.
  • Recycling, how-to guide, and why it is only a piece of the puzzle.
  • Tips to reduce food waste. Storing, saving food guide.
  • Composting 101 and how-to guide.
  • Reducing single-use plastic and the circular economy.
  • Week 2.
  • Exploring waste in the home. Kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, lounge room, backyard.
  • Whole food, why and places you can go.
  • Disposing household items.
  • Making plant milk at home and learning about why this is an environmentally friendly alternative to cow milk. We will make this on site.
  • Week 3.
  • Why shop local. Why shop at farmers markets, smaller grocers?
  • How to reduce your carbon footprint three times a day. Why plant based is the solution to climate change.
  • Fast fashion.

Learning Outcomes:

Learn how to reduce waste, save money and live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. This course will change the way you think about waste and provide you with a broad understanding of how adopting a zero waste lifestyle can help you, your community and the world at large.

About the Tutor:

'I have completed a bachelor of community welfare at Western Sydney University. I am a support worker at SGSCC disAbility and assist people with disabilities to learn life skills. I am a self-proclaimed environmentalist. I love nature and I am passionate about keeping our planet as green as possible and our animals free. I believe collectively in making daily choices aligned to these values we can make a better world. This is why I am running these workshops so that people are empowered to live their lives according to their values.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
