Watercolour Painting with Marion - Beginners

Have you been thinking about learning watercolour paintings? Join us at SGSCC for this introductory art class. Start painting if you haven’t tried it before and learn the basics in this creative art course within a friendly and inspiring environment. This is a class for beginners to explore watercolour painting in a step-by-step class.

Course Outline:

• Introduction to basic watercolour techniques
• The importance of a focal point
• How to use masking fluid
• How to create transparent layers of watercolour
• Basics of colour theory

What to bring:

• Tubes – Minimum 3 tubes watercolour: Blue (Ultramarine Blue or Cobalt Blue), Red (Permanent Rose and/or magenta) and yellow (Cadmium yellow light or Winsor yellow). Optional extras: raw sienna, burnt sienna, cerulean, viridian. (You are welcome to use pan watercolour paints or whatever you have.)
• Paper – 2 pads of watercolour paper. 1 x quality watercolour paper pad A4 or A3 (quality paper works best) and 1 x cheap watercolour paper pad for quick exercises.
• Brushes – a big brush for water (eg a Hake brush or large mop) . Also, bring a range of brushes so you can enjoy painting wet in wet washes. As a guide, Marion uses 5 brushes: 2 medium round brushes with good points, one flat brush, a liner brush and a large flat brush for water.
• You also need Boards larger than your paper, HB pencil, eraser, masking tape, watercolour palette, spray bottle, old towel for the table, tissues, masking fluid + old brush/applicator, 2 water containers and a sense of fun.

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
