Watercolour and Pen

Join this watercolour workshop ready to enjoy painting organic watercolour backgrounds. Once dry, we will draw native flowers using our pens. We will work from fresh native plants found locally and focus on creating harmonious pen and watercolour paintings.

Course Outline:

  • Practice painting organic backgrounds
  • Paint organic backgrounds and allow them to dry
  • Practice drawing organic foregrounds
  • Draw organic foregrounds onto the backgrounds

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn how to glaze layers of watercolour
  • Learn how to observe natural objects
  • Learn basics of tonal drawing
  • Learn about drawing media suitable for watercolour

What to bring:

  • Watercolour – bring any colours you love in tubes or pans. Marion will be using tubes in 2 blues, 2 reds and 2 yellows and turquoise
  • Paper: Watercolour quality paper pad, any size you like. Also bring a cheap pad of watercolour paper for sampling.
  • Brushes: 2 medium round brushes with good points and any other brushes you prefer to use
  • Extras: HB or 2B pencil, eraser, masking tape, watercolour palette, spray bottle, old towel for the table, tissues, 2 water containers 2 or 3 non-absorbent support boards larger than your paper
  • Black pen, non-soluble, in 2 sizes. Or any drawing media you love to draw with from coloured pencils to markers to gel pens.

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run (“we try our hardest to get those”) . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
