Photography Masterclass

Learning from a Professional Photography Tutor, this Masterclass Course is for Photography students, who want to have the opportunity to truly challenge themselves, and their current skill set, to take their Photography beyond any concept or structure, they have already learned. This Masterclass Course allows students to question, and understand what are the true fundamentals of Photography, and how they began, and how they make a difference.

Through the Masterclass Method, students will relearn their Photography techniques through; Observation, Advanced Previsualization to understanding, and mastering the principals of The Trilogy of Photography; Light, Composition, and Timing. Comprehensive set up for Colour and Black and White. This comprehensive Course includes 4 x field trips, 2 x Zoom online Theory sessions and 4 x Zoom online feedback sessions.

Skill level:

Please note this course covers advanced principals of Photography in-depth, therefore it is recommended that students should have completed either an;

  • Intermediate Photography Course, and or similar
  • Landscape Photography Course or similar
  • Or an Intermediate Field Trip(s) i.e.; Seeing in Black in White – CBD, Seeing in Black in White – Tram Museum, Action Photography, Night Photography i.e. Luna Park, Macro i.e. Sylvan Grove, Sculpture by the Sea and or similar.

and or

  • Students must have a thorough working knowledge of their camera and all its controls, including their set up of their camera; iso, image size and picture styles, and some of the principals of Photography including; both shutter speeds, and aperture-depth of field, and composition.

Advanced Picture Control and Picture styles

  • Customizing your picture control/picture style to every situation

  • Muted / neutral versus Vivid
  • Custom Colour presets
  • Custom Monochrome/black and white presets
  • These Picture styles / Picture control settings will be sent as well as other set up information for this course.

Field trip: Voodoo Point / whale Sculptures Kurnell

What you will need for Zoom classes:

Computer / Smartphone / Tablet loaded with an updated version of a browser, either Firefox / Chrome / Safari and zoom software with a basic/free account set up Have zoom software installed and free/basic account set up, this only takes a few minutes. The Tutor will broadcast in HD please use the fastest connection possible whether; broadband / 5G / 4G etc Zoom Links, free legitimate camera manufacturer and other software links, course Outline and course notes will be provided by the Tutor, once the course has started.

Zoom Online Classes; If wish not to do the zoom class feedback / theory (depending on the course), this course still offers great value to learn and get experience of Photography in the Field.

Zoom classes are not mandatory but enables the Tutor to give more accurate feedback, in the comfort of your home and also allow a better opportunity for Hybrid learning; handpicked audio-visual resources, as well as the knowledge, of a Tutor with over 48 years' experience.

Most courses and field trips are now a maximum of 6 x places offering only the best possible Tutoring and field trip experience(s), and feedback.

What to bring:

Camera Equipment;

Any adjustable digital camera; DSLR / 4/3rds / Mirrorless with;

  • RAW / JPEG image capability
  • adjustable ISO/film speed settings
  • with adjustable exposure settings; shutter, aperture, and manual exposure i.e. S or TV, A or AV, and M
  • with manual/autofocus capability
  • also if your camera has adjustable picture control/picture style settings i.e. monochrome standard, neutral, etc
  • A spare camera body if you have one
  • Batterie(s) charged and ready x 2 if you have them
  • Memory card(s) x 2 if you have them

An extra battery and memory card, are strongly recommended, as your camera will be ON for most of our practice sessions, and field trips including long time exposures, and reviewing your photographs frequently

A lens with a standard focal length lens is highly recommend
PRIME: 28mm, 28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm

ZOOM: 8 – 55 mm , 18 – 135 mm , 16 – 35mm , 24 – 70mm , 28 to 80 mm

1 10 – 20mm , 40 – 150mm , 70 – 200 etc
Lens notes;

  • Any lens with a fast aperture of f1.4 / f1.8 / f2.0 / f2.8 / f4.0 etc will be very useful for sunset / twilight / night time Photography
  • To do some effects Photography, a lens with manual focus (usually a switch on the lens or camera) is necessary
  • To do zoom effects, a zoom lens is necessary
  • The tutor uses a 15mm fisheye / wide angle lens to capture photographs at a closer range
  • A circular polarizing filter known as a CPL is strongly recommended

Footwear:

Closed in footwear ONLY for your safety, for ALL field trips acceptable; closed walking / running shoes/hiking boots with rubber soles (no leather soles / no thongs/sandals / high heels, etc)

Additional items for field trips:

Field trips:
Details for the field trips will be sent once this course had begun

If a venue for a field trip(s) has not been granted access ie lockdown/safety concerns etc, an alternative field trip(s) will be offered during the course
Briefing, as well as review and debrief of student’s photographs, is inclusive of the time allowed, for each field trip.

Please note:

For all field trips; General Photography is permitted, but; (close-up photos of families/adults and especially identifying children under 18 years old, should not be taken or be published unless a model waiver has been signed).

Weather:

ALL field trips will be run regardless of the weather, to allow participants to photograph in fine or wet weather.
A field trip will only be postponed to a future date, ONLY if extreme weather/thunderstorm is forecast or it is continuously raining.

Batteries:

Ensure your battery/batteries are fully charged whether they are half full or not, as your camera will be on for the entire first-class lesson, and to charge your battery/batteries before each class.

Memory cards:

An extra memory card is strongly advisable, the Tutor will advise students of what and how to purchase a second/extra high-quality memory card.

"My name is Neoklis Bloukos, and I have had a passion for Photography since I was 14 years old.

My experience of over 48 years of in Photography includes; 25 years as a Press Photographer, over 19 years of Digital Photography & post processing, and now 8 years as a Professional Photography Tutor, teaching all levels of Photography.

I am very passionate about Photography, and I love to teach and share, my knowledge and practice of both classic and modern; Photography genres and techniques in the field, and I believe it is the most significant visual medium on this planet.

It is not just about teaching Photography, it is also about experiences with like-minded people, whom want to learn, share and enjoy the Photography learning experience together, in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere."

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
