Naked Cake

Learn how to make a naked cake; it’s not as hard as you think! They not only look beautiful on the outside, but they will also taste delicious. Our experienced cake professional and passionate cake and cupcake decorating tutor will explain to you how to create that delicious masterpiece step by step. Starting by the preparation of your key ingredients, guiding you step by step through the recipe, how you put your naked cake together and tips and tricks to decorate your cake. Join us at SGSCC for our popular cake decorating classes and learn how to make them look beautiful. Wow, yourself, your friends and your family by beautiful sweet treats created by yourself! Decorate your first naked cake, a cake that is such a versatile cake that can be the basis for so many occasions.

Course Outline

  • Learning how to make the perfect buttercream
  • Cut, stack, fill, frost and decorate a naked cake
  • You will also learn how to do the famous “drip”!

Course Outcome:

  • Learn how to put your cake together
  • Decorating and finishing your cake

What to bring:

  • 2 high baked cakes (6-8 inches in diameter), or 4 single layer cakes (you can purchase these from Woolworths, unfilled sponge cakes in a twin pack)
  • 3 x tubs of Betty Crocker frosting
  • Cake board (Coles have a twin pack)
  • Sharp bread knife
  • 1 large bowl
  • 2 x smaller bowls
  • spoon
  • Tea towel
  • Cleaning/anti-bacterial wipes
  • Cake turntable
  • Curved icing spatula
  • Scraper
  • Chocolate “Drip” any colour (this can be purchased online or via Cake Decorating Solutions in Caringbah


  • All other tools & utensils are supplied for use on the day

Please note this cake will need to travel home on your front passenger floor or seat. I have purchased around hat/gift box from the local liquidator store that I use to transport my naked cakes, it costs $15 for the larger size but well worth the investment for peace of mind transport.

Safety First:

Please ensure you wear closed in shoes, long pants and ensure long hair is tied back.

About the tutor:

'Carly has been decorating cakes and cupcakes for over 7 years. Carly has been teaching at ‘Cake It Up’ a local business that hosts fun and entertaining cupcake decorating parties for kids, and hosting specialty cake workshops for adults. Carly has also been working in the cake retail industry until recently, she has built up quite a lot of knowledge that she loves to share with her classes. She loves teaching and watching the joy on peoples faces as their creative talents come out when they are decorating. Carly believes everyone has it in them to create cupcake and cake masterpieces if they are brave enough to try.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
