Introduction to Drawing

This five-hour Back to Basics course is designed to help students to apply a methodical approach to drawing, to develop a keener awareness of the object or subject being viewed, and an understanding of where and how to begin. This course will also explore how to create realism in drawing and the steps towards creating a three-dimensional image on a two-dimensional surface. The workshop is designed for beginners.

Course Content:

  • Identification: Size, Shape, Detail
  • Perception: Studying the Subject/Object/Image
  • Application: Proportion, Structure, Perspective, Realism
  • Dimension: Tone, Shade and Depth

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this Drawing Course, you will have learned about:

  • Identifying basic shapes in objects. *Developing a keener perception and awareness.
  • The importance of Proportion, Structure, Perspective, and Realism.
  • Adding tone and shade to drawings, and layering colour.

  • A4 Drawing Book
  • HB & 2B lead pencils
  • Set of colour pencils
  • Rubber & Sharpener
  • Ruler

About the Tutor:

'Michael (Mike) Fitzgerald is a qualified Commercial Artist with a broad range of experience within advertising and direct marketing. Mike who has worked as a commercial artist, design studio manager, art director, and print production manager currently owns and manages a Mobile Art Tutoring Business in Sydney, as well as conducting his personally designed creative workshops in Community Colleges.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run (“we try our hardest to get those”) . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
