Experimental Art for Beginners

This class has been created for you to learn not only the basics of acrylic painting but also to learn some fun painting techniques to experiment with different ways to bring a painting to life, how to build up texture, how to work from different approaches in composition like landscape, cubism, music interpretation, etc…Every week we will cover some basics of painting and create an artwork.

Course Outline:

This class will be a fortnightly program (so 4 final artwork minimum) that will help you to approach different starting points of how to get started into an artwork.

Learning Outcomes:

This is a friendly and relaxed class, we are all learning while having fun, we will cover all the different basics of acrylic painting. All along you will be guided and
supported. At the end of the term, you will have to master the freedom of how to start, keep going, how to do things, and feel comfortable with it all.

What to bring:

Suggested acrylics colours (but you are welcome to buy a 'start box of primary acrylic colours from a dollar shop or art shop)

  • Blues – Ultramarine blue, Cerulean blue
  • Reds – Spectrum red, Spectrum crimson
  • Yellow – Spectrum yellow, Cadmium yellow
  • Payne’s grey
  • Burnt Sienna
  • White and black
  • Acrylic medium
  • 3 or 4 Flat brushes in different thickness
  • 3 or 4 Round brushes
  • One rag
  • 1 small palette knife
  • 1 flat palette or an old plate or a plastic plate
  • Some compressed charcoal
  • Vine charcoal / compressed charcoal pencils
  • Pencil 2B
  • Pencil sharpener/ rubber
  • A sketchbook/ if you want an art journal
  • 2 canvases 16' x 20'
  • Wear old clothes or an apron

About the Tutor:

'French native I have a degree in ‘visual art and textiles’ in France completed my studies in ‘visual arts’ at TAFE. My experience in art ranges from teaching adults/children / private lessons and art workshops. My art journey covers commissioned works, art competitions and exhibitions of numerous artworks thought out different events. Painting is one of my life passions that I love sharing through different types of classes at the SGSCC. In any of my art programs, you will create a weekly artwork with explanations and support. The classes are educational while relaxing with gentle background music; they are a great opportunity to share art culture in general. All classes are suitable for any art level.' Valerie

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
