Clay & Coffee

This workshop allows you to hand build your own textured creation under the guidance of local ceramic artist, Amy-Rose Finch. Come along and grab a coffee or Chai from our coffee van on the day or whatever you fancy and be prepared for a fun and curious adventure into Clay where you can make a planter, mug, trinket bowls, vase, or anything you like.

Amy will provide all the guidance you need to bring your idea to life using various hand building techniques and methods to create texture. We will provide you with Clay, Stamps, and tools to use on the day and your wonderful creation will be fired and ready to collect within 6-8 weeks.

Course Outline:

  • Intro to hand building techniques
  • Make your own ceramic creation.
  • 30min break
  • Creating texture

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn the pinch pot technique.
  • Learn how to successfully join two pieces with the score and slip method.
  • Reinforce joins with the coiling technique.
  • Learn how to create texture with stamps and tools.

What to bring:

  • Refreshments and lunch
  • Bring an apron or large shirt to protect your clothing.

About the Tutor:

Local exhibiting contemporary ceramic artisan Amy-Rose Finch has over twenty years' experience in the visual arts and 5 years of contemporary ceramics practice. She has studied contemporary fine arts at the University of Western Sydney and is currently studying a Diploma of Ceramics.

Amy makes functional and decorative art objects such as vessels, pots and amulets that are inspired by ancient traditions and rituals.
Passionate about clay and community, Amy creates objects that have symbolic and spiritual significance.

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
