CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support

This qualification reflects the role of support workers in the community and/or residential setting following an individualised plan to provide person-centred support to people who may require assistance due to ageing, disability or some other reason.
This qualification includes:
- Assisting and improving the quality of life of people with a disability and the elderly
- Helping your clients to live with respect and dignity and maintain as much independence for as long as possible

What you need to know about this course:
- New students are expected to attend a mandatory college orientation before you start your course. Orientation times and dates will be advised after enrolment.
- Classes commence at the beginning of week 1 of each school term
- There is no training during school holidays
- Students will be accepted into the class throughout the term
- You will need to plan for approximately 5-8 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks
- Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
- Resources are provided by SGSCC
- Student lounge available
- WiFi is available
What resources do you need to study from home?
- A computer with internet access
- Email access
- Facebook account
Course entry requirements:
- Current National Police Check (arranged through SGSCC)
- Complete an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine that the student has sufficient skills to successfully complete the course
- Access to computer/internet
- Facebook account for private class communication and access to learning resources (assistance creating an account can be arranged through SGSCC)
- Note taking materials
- Attend work placement (arranged by SGSCC) and be workplace assessed (minimum 120 hours)
- Unique Student Identifier (can be arranged through SGSCC)
- There are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course
- Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences
Do you need to complete any work placement hours?
- Yes, you need to complete 120 hours (15 days) in a care service facility.
- You will work as a student (unpaid) during work placement.
- SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment.
- Before commencing work placement, you will be required to get a current national criminal record check to allow you to work in a care service facility. SGSCC will assist you with this application process.
Will you need to sit for any exams?
- No. This is a competency-based course
- Tell us, then show us you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
- You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 13 units of learning
Assessments are made up by a range of:
- Case studies
- Demonstration
- Portfolio of evidence
- Presentation
- Questions & answers
- Research report
To be deemed competent:
- You will receive clear assessment instructions
- You must complete all assessments to a satisfactory standard as set by your trainer
- These are assessed by your trainer
- Opportunities will be provided for trainers to support students and to resubmit their assessments if required
When you have completed and been deemed competent you can:
- Progress with SGSCC to the CHC43115 Certificate IV in Disability, CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support or the CHC42015 Certificate IV in Community Services.

- $1,750 (maximum Smart and Skilled student fee)
- $3,000 (fee for those who are ineligible for Smart and Skilled)
- Pay in full or interest-free monthly payment plan available
- By Cash, EFTPOS, Visa or MasterCard

Eligibility for Subsided Training under the Smart & Skilled Training Program:
This training is subsidised by the NSW Government under the Smart & Skilled Training Program. To be eligible you must be
- an Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/NZ citizen/humanitarian visa holder
- aged 15 years or older, and
- live or work in New South Wales, and
- no longer be at school or equivalent

Eligibility for “Skilling for Recovery” - Fee-Free nationally accredited training:
Skilling for Recovery is a NSW Government initiative to deliver JobTrainer funding in NSW. It provides free certificate, diploma and short course training to eligible applicants. If you meet the Smart & Skilled Program eligibility above and one of the following you could complete this course fee free:
- Unemployed (with or without a benefit); or
- At risk of unemployment; or
- 17-24 years old (employed or not)
