Being In the Moment - Photography Field Trip - Camellia Gardens

Being in the Moment Photography can be called Slow Photography, Purposeful Photography or Contemplative Photography, it is about seeing and connecting with what is in front of you, using a camera, to not only capture that moment forever, but to also enjoy that moment in time, of the scene, subject or object we are actually observing / Photographing as you are being mindful.

Your Being in the Moment Photography skills will also help you to observe develop, your creativity and artistic skills, and how to express yourself through your Photography, no matter where you are or what you are Photographing.

What you will learn:

  • How to observe and 'really see'
  • Simple photography techniques that will enable you to compose any photograph and to capture what you actually ‘see’ and 'feel'
  • Finding and interpreting the light
  • Close up photography
  • How Black & White can emphasise through light and shadow
  • How colour can capture mood

Skill Level:

This field trip is suitable for anyone, whom can use their camera.
You will be able to do this field trip whether or not you have a thorough working knowledge of your camera and controls and or the shutter and aperture settings.

What to bring:

As a suggestion
Audio player and headphones:
Please bring an audio player / smartphone / iPod / mp3 plyer or similar and headphones, with some of your favourite relaxation music / music

Camera Equipment;

Any adjustable digital camera; DSLR / 4/3rds / Mirrorless compact camera with;

  • RAW / JPEG image capability
  • adjustable ISO / film speed settings
  • with adjustable exposure settings; shutter, aperture and manual exposure i.e. S or TV, A or AV and M,
  • With manual / auto focus capability
  • also if your camera has adjustable picture control / picture style settings i.e. monochrome standard, neutral etc
  • A spare camera body if you have one
  • Batterie(s) charged and ready x 2 if you have them
  • Memory card(s) x 2 if you have them
  • Lenses: any zoom prime lens semi wide to standard focal length

Please note:

  • You can use a compact camera with adjustable settings – preferably with (black and white AND COLOUR setting / picture styles etc)

Please note; Any adjustable digital camera / digital Compact camera with a fixed lens are fine too as long as you can make some adjustments to the camera (check your instruction manual for more details).

What to wear:

Weatherproof clothing/clothing for warmer or cool weather

  • Cool / wet weather warm clothing / jumper / rain jacket
  • Warmer weather – comfortable clothing, hat, and sunglasses

Essential Footwear:

You will need proper footwear for this field trip.
Please note; as there are some uneven and loose surfaces, to participate you must wear enclosed footwear only, no open footwear i.e.; sandals, high heels, open shoes, smooth soled shoes cannot be worn for this field trip.

For safety purposes acceptable footwear is as follows; Shoes with grip / rubber soles i.e. walking shoes, running shoes, bush walking shoes or hiking boots / water / weather-proof footwear / boots are highly recommended).

Additional items:

Lunch/food: We will be having a short break for lunch and help for students during the break

  • It is strongly advisable to bring your
  • ample water at least 1 × 600ml
  • food
  • snacks
  • drinks etc,
  • Bug repellent
  • Note pad and pen
  • Cushion or towel for chairs/ bench
  • A towel for yourself and your camera
  • Mini umbrella (no large umbrellas for safety reasons*• parking fees / transport to and from, water, drinks, snacks, food etc are not included

What Safety items to bring:

Recommended safety items;

  • For your safety, a face mask is highly recommended especially for feedback
  • A handkerchief, Tissues, Alcohol-based hand sanitiser should be at least 70 to 90 percent alcohol, Disposable gloves Antibacterial wipes (camera) Camera (LCD) screen cleaner * Please note;

General photography is permitted, but; (close-up photos of families / adults and especially identifying children under 18 years old should not be taken, or be published, unless a model waiver has been signed).


This field trip will go ahead even if it is raining lightly.
Field trips will run regardless of the weather to give students an opportunity to photograph in fine or wet weather.
If it is dangerous weather, high winds severe downpour you will be sent an email or text please keep on eye out for any messages / mail from Neoklis in case the weather changes suddenly
A field trip will only be postponed to a future date if heavy weather / thunderstorm is forecast or it is continuously raining.

About the Tutor:

"My name is Neoklis Bloukos and I have had a passion for Photography since I was 14 years old. With over 48 years of experience of Photography, 25 years as a Press Photographer, and over 19 years of digital post-processing.
I am now a Professional Photography Tutor, teaching the whole spectrum of Photography; Beginner, Intermediate, and right through to Masterclass (Advanced) Photography at SGSCC.
I am passionate about Photography and I love to teach and share both classic and modern Photography techniques, and believe it is the most significant visual medium on this planet.
My Courses and Field Trips are not just about learning Photography, but experiences with like-minded people who want to learn, share and enjoy the photography learning experience together, in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere."

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
