Bath Salts, Bath Tea & Body Scrubs

Create handmade relaxation bath salts, bath tea, and a deliciously scented body scrub. Exfoliate to reveal smooth and soft skin, or sink into a warm, scented bath and soothe away stress. Bath and shower products are great for personal indulgence or make a thoughtful gift for someone special. Ingredients included.

In this hands-on bath & body giftbox workshop you will be making 3 different body products:

  • Relaxation aromatherapy bath salts – a blend of different mineral salts & skin-softening ingredients, scented with a relaxation blend of essential oils
  • Botanical Bath Tea – with herbs, flowers & and uplifting blend of essential oils, complete with re-usable bath bag
  • Scented sugar body scrub – for gentle exfoliation

You’ll be creating with different salts, sugars, carrier oils, clays, minerals & botanicals, together with a variety of natural essential oils, and skin-safe cosmetic grade fragrant oils & colours. Learn how and why to use each ingredient, and the benefits they bring to the product. Discover how to adapt the recipes provided to suit your preference, plus how to create these recipes for yourself at home, using natural or cosmetic-grade ingredients. You will make, package & label each product to take home with you.

No prior experience is needed. This workshop is suitable for total beginners, or for students who have an interest in creating their recipes for bath and body products.

Course Outline:

  • Different ingredients, how & why they are used & their benefits
  • Natural vs Cosmetic fragrances
  • Safe techniques
  • Carrier oils – what they bring to your recipe and the benefits for your skin
  • Essential or fragrance oil use – and working with the dermal limits for leave-on or wash-off products
  • Natural additives & their benefits – clays, minerals & botanicals
  • Adjusting the recipes for your personal preference
  • Packaging & labelling for safe gifting

Learning Outcomes:

  • A basic knowledge of the different types of ingredients used in each product
  • Knowledge about the ingredients used and their benefits
  • Make and take home a cello wrapped giftbox with 4 handmade bath and body products
  • Make and take home an additional 4 products for your use
  • Knowledge of labelling requirements for safe gifting & how to package your items
  • Knowledge on how to formulate and make additional products at home in the future
  • Information on where to easily buy the ingredients

About the Tutor:

Shirlee has been involved with handmade skincare products from a very early age. For example, she has been helping her grandmother making her handmade face & body moisturiser. Since then she’s continued crafting handmade items of all different kinds – including soaps, lotions, scrubs, and other body care items. In the beginning, these have been for gifts or personal/family use, until she created a few years ago business entity for retail & wholesale distribution of her items. Shirlee is a NICNAS registered soap maker and has taught soapmaking and other crafts to small groups and individuals, commencing with SGSCC in 2017 as a soapmaking and body care products tutor.

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled before the commencement and you will be informed.
