Watercolour Skies Watercolour Sunsets
Learn how to paint a stunning watercolour sunset and a glorious watercolour sky. We will focus on colours that harmonise and glow in creating 2 watercolour sky paintings. This is a class for beginners and intermediate watercolour painters to explore watercolour painting in a step by step class.
Course Outline:
- Introduction to watercolour techniques
- Basics of perspective in the sky
- All source photographs are supplied
Learning Outcomes:
- Watercolour techniques – wet in wet and wet on dry
- Simple perspective
- Colour harmony
What to bring:
- Tubes – Minimum 3 tubes watercolour: Blue (Ultramarine Blue or Cobalt Blue), Red (Permanent Rose) and yellow (Cadmium yellow light or Winsor yellow). Optional extras: raw sienna, burnt sienna, cerulean, viridian, magenta. (You are welcome to use pan watercolour paints or whatever you have.)
- Paper;
Watercolour paper pad A4 or A3 (quality paper works best)
Cheap watercolour paper pad for quick exercises
- Brushes: a big brush for water (eg Hake brush or large mop) will be helpful. Also bring a range of medium to large brushes so you can enjoy painting wet in wet washes. Marion uses 5 brushes: 2 medium round brushes with good points, one flat brush (e.g. 1/2 inch), liner brush and a large flat brush for water.
- You also need: Boards larger than your paper, HB pencil, eraser, masking tape, watercolour palette, spray bottle, old towel for the table, tissues, 2 water containers and a sense of adventure
