The Art of Colourful Living

Designed for those who love working with colour and using colour in general. The power of using colour therapy in art is quite unique and often utilised in everyday life to help enhance and uplift our mood and wellbeing. Learn briefly about the science, psychology and symbolism of colour, as well as gaining an understanding of how using colour can work for you in your daily life.
Learn about the impact of colour on emotions and moods and ways to enhance and uplift and live more colourfully.

Participants will embark on a journey of colour and how specific colours reflect “you” and “who” you are as person. It’s a very artfully creative thing to do, as it stimulates the creative flow without the need for verbalisation of feelings, thoughts and emotions and also encourages self-reflection. Practical and experiential hands-on activity, creating your own creative personalised Collage-artwork using fun creative mixed media techniques. A great way to start off a new year! No artistic skills or ability is required.

Course Outline:

  • Journey into the world of colour expression, symbolism and reflection through the use of Collage. Through collage techniques, we are able to express ideas and thoughts and emotions very freely and creatively without the hang ups of having to be artistic and draw and paint.
  • In collage a variety of materials are used from paints, drawing, doodling, newspaper, magazines, books, photos, fabric cut outs, objects, bric-a-brac of all sorts and creative materials galore.
  • Highly colourful, expressive and creative fun and enjoyable, whilst also very calming relaxing, and mindful. No artistic skills or ability is required.

Note: This program is NOT a Counselling Art Therapy program

Learning Outcome:

  • This session will have outlined objectives to achieve at the conclusion, however, it is entirely up to participants how much of it is achieved. It is meant to be self-driven and self-actualising, however participants have the benefit of having time in this session to be creatively guided accordingly.
  • Practice mindfulness and easy relaxation breathing techniques with guided visualisations and short meditations. Soft/relaxing music will be utilised in this session.
  • There will be focus on hands on creating as well as group discussion and sharing as well as reflection time in the workshop session.

What to bring:

All participants will be contacted by the Tutor prior to the workshop regarding any additional necessary materials.

Participants are welcome to bring their own colouring in pencils and markers, mixed media paint brushes. Magazine cut outs, images, photos, memorabilia, embellishments, and bric-a-brac to decorate with

About the Tutor:

'Melissa (Mel) Martin is a contemporary artist, practices Art Therapy and is a champion of change, who has taken her interests and training in People Management and Organisational Psychology, and Art Therapy to a new level of experiencing self- awareness.
Mel runs local art classes/workshops through Learning and Community Centres as well as privately, where she explores with small groups their true selves and the potential they have and the fear that is holding them back.By engaging in this therapy, Mel is able to reach into the lives of the people she can help more directly or build a personalised service for an individual or group looking for personal and or team building opportunities to reduce stress, improve confidence, compassion, problem solving skills, workflow and life balance.'
