Portuguese for Travellers

Portuguese is a West Romance language and the sole official language of Portugal, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, Angola, and São Tomé and Príncipe. It also has co-official language status in East Timor, Equatorial Guinea and Macau in China. Portuguese is usually listed as the fifth most natively spoken language in the world, the third-most spoken European language in the world in terms of native speakers. This course focuses how can use greetings, personal information, expressing yourself, localisation, travel expression, formal language, basic sentences for day to day. You will also learn more about story and culture each country speak Portuguese.

Agenda:

This course covers the following topics:

  • Pronunciation – pronunciation can be easily learned by following some simple rules. Understand the difference between Portuguese Portugal and Portuguese Brazilian and similarities between Spain
  • Greetings – how to provide and understand personal information
  • Introducing someone: by his / her nationality, occupation; age.
  • How you use thank.
  • To give directions
  • Introducing your family and friends: demonstrative (this/these/those/) and possessive pronouns (my/mine, yours).
  • Numbers 0-1000.
  • Prepositions – in English, these include: by, at, from, in.
  • Countries and Prepositions – to describe the origin of people, objects and places.
  • Ordering in a restaurant – Regular and Irregular Verbs related to food and services.
  • Days, months and seasons of the year.
  • Timetables / hours – to show time and a time relationship.
  • Making plans for weekdays, weekends and holidays
  • Going shopping (Verbs, nouns, fractions and monetary amounts) - to ask about ‘costs’, measurement', ‘percentage’, ‘to buy/sell/promote products’.
  • Shopping Expressions – to ask for a discount, to express contentment/ discontentment with a product, etc..
  • Buying clothes (Verbs and Clothing Vocabulary) – to buy, to put on hold, to exchange, to return a product.
  • Locating objects in the house.
