Painting to Music

Painting to music is a fun and imaginative course on which you will explore different creative approached to expressing music on canvas. You will experiment with a range of techniques led by your own choice of music whilst working towards making a series of paintings. Investigate famous artists who used music to inspire their art, including Wassily Kandinsky and Roy de Maistre. There will be opportunities for discussion and sharing of ideas. Classes will use a range of analogous art-music themes including tone, intensity, mood, repetition and form as a platform for ideas. Learn how to use watercolour and/or acrylic paints effectively to confidently create your own artwork.

What to bring:

  • Bring along your choice of music and device to play it on and headphones
  • Large sheets of paper/cardboard
  • Acrylic paints and/or watercolours
  • A selection of brush sizes
  • Sketching pencils
  • Coloured pencils
  • A canvas is also recommended for the final session

Week 1 Kandinsky – Colour and tone
Week 2 Picasso – Construction a composition
Week 3 Chagall – Resist and using watercolour
Week 4 Final Piece – Developing a composition on canvas
