Mixed Media Art: Incredible Inks and More! Adults & Kids

Learn how you can work with water-based inks to create interesting effects, with simple techniques. Combine inks with other mediums like gouache (watercolour) and or acrylic paints to create mixed media art works.

For those of you who are Creative Non-Artist or feel you have loads of untapped creative potential, but are unsure where to start and also wanting to work on learning how to “switch off” and “unwind” through creative outlets. This introductory workshop is designed to be simple, mindful and relaxing in a fun, social setting. Practical and experiential hands-on activity, creating your own creative personalised artwork using fun creative mixed media techniques. You will also learn simple techniques to help reduce stress, increase wellbeing and enjoyment in everyday life.

No artistic experience required but if you have worked with inks you will still learn something new. Extension techniques possible. All levels of creative and artistic flair welcome. Great opportunity to create together, parent/guardian & child workshop. Over 15 year olds are able to attend without supervision of an adult.


The workshop will focus on connecting with your inner-creative self through some simple, mindfulness techniques such as, relaxation breathing, whilst creating simple, engaging creative art work on the day to take home.

  • Practice mindfulness and easy relaxation breathing techniques with guided visualisations and short meditations. Soft/relaxing music will be utilised in this session.
  • There will be focus on hands on creating with inks and other water based mediums (gouache and or acrylics) as well as group discussion and sharing as well as reflection time in the workshop session.

Art media utilised may include: Inks, Gouache, Acrylic Paints & oil crayons, felt tip pen, art and watercolour paper & other mixed media materials

No artistic experience required. Participants will be notified prior to class as to what they will need to have for the session. Some materials will be supplied. All levels of creative and artistic flair welcome. Facilitated by an Artist/Holistic Creative Arts Therapist and Wellbeing Facilitator.


1x 6 hr hour workshop (participants will need to bring snacks and lunch with them (common room fridge and coffee/tea making facilities are available) and drinks on the day as there will be no food truck available. Vending machines are available on premises for snacks and cold drinks.

Material Costs per person:

Materials and art requirement will be provided on the day. All participants will be contacted by the Tutor prior to the workshop regarding any additional necessary materials.

About the Tutor:

'Melissa (Mel) Martin is a contemporary artist, practicing Art Therapy and is a Champion of Change, who has taken her interests and professional training in People Management/Organisational Psychology, and Art Therapy to a new level of experiencing self- awareness. Mel runs local creative art classes/workshops through Learning and Community Centres as well as privately, where she explores with small groups their true selves and the potential they have and the fear that is holding them back. Offering a varied range of personalised Creative Art Services from Art Therapy and Mindfulness practices, exploring a range of mixed media art techniques and tools to facilitate imaginative fun and creative expression, which can facilitate team building opportunities, reduce stress, improve confidence, compassion, problem solving skills, workflow and life balance.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run (“we try our hardest to get those”) . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
