Mindfully Creative

Continuing down the Mindful Art path and taking the next steps to work on learning how to “switch off” and “unwind” through creative outlets. Ideal for time-poor creatives and non-artists this is a short program designed to be simple, mindful and relaxing in a fun, social workshop setting. Providing participants with some quality time to unleash creative potential and reduce day to day stress and increase wellbeing and enjoyment in everyday life.

This 4 week program seeks to build on the learnings from the previous Mindful Art (Beginner) course and provide even more practical hands-on creating. Promoting more opportunity for free-flow of expression and the ability to connect with your inner-self, using simple fun artwork techniques, mixed media and simple relaxation techniques and easy self-care tips.

Content:

  • Each session consists of slightly more challenging creative-art activities designed to enable individuals to unplug, unwind and reconnect with their inner creative-selves.
  • Mindfulness on the run- practice quick and easy techniques including guided visualisations & relaxation breathing, and combining music therapy in creating.
  • Focus is on the process of creating joyful art, utilising mixed media and techniques such as; drawing, doodling, painting and mixed media collage.

Prerequisite: Prior completion of the Mindful Art- How to Unplug, Unwind & Relax, or Mindfully Creative program is recommended, though not mandatory. References will be made to previous content and learnings from previous sessions and further developed. Beginners will be provided with catch up material and hand outs prior to the course.

No artistic experience required.

All levels of creative and artistic flair welcome.

Duration: 4 × 2.5 hour workshop

Materials:

Some of the materials required will be supplied, however, you will be asked to bring along additional materials by the Tutor.
Participants are welcome to bring their own:

  • Coloured pencils
  • Watercolour pencils
  • Felt pens
  • Markers
  • Pastels
  • Paint brushes and palates.

All participants will be contacted by the Tutor prior to the workshop.

About the Tutor:

'Melissa (Mel) Martin is a contemporary artist, practices Art Therapy and is a champion of change, who has taken her interests and training in People Management and Organisational Psychology, and Art Therapy to a new level of experiencing self- awareness. Mel runs local art classes/workshops through Learning and Community Centres as well as privately, where she explores with small groups their true selves and the potential they have and the fear that is holding them back. By engaging in this therapy, Mel is able to reach into the lives of the people she can help more directly or build a personalised service for an individual or group looking for personal and or team building opportunities to reduce stress, improve confidence, compassion, problem solving skills, workflow and life balance.'

Art Therapy Diploma, Health & Harmony College, QLD.
BSc (Psychology), UNSW.
Change Management Post Graduate Diploma, CSU. HR Management Certificate, Sydney University.
Member -International Institute for Complementary Therapists (IICT) Working With Children Check Approved. Services NSW.
