Mindful Photography - Oatley Park & Jewfish Bay Baths

Mindful Photography can be called Slow Photography, Purposeful Photography or Contemplative Photography, it is about seeing and connecting with what is in front of you, using a camera, to not only capture that moment forever, but to also enjoy that moment in time, of the scene, subject or object we are actually observing / photographing as you are being mindful.

Amongst the beauty of Oatley Park and Jewfish Bay Baths, you will learn Mindful Photography, in a relaxed but informative atmosphere, with ample time to learn simple photography techniques that will enable you to compose any photograph, and to capture what you actually ‘see’ including; Colour photography, Finding and using the light, Texture – finding and photographing texture, Close up photography, POV Point of View – Where you take the photograph from, Seeing and Photographing in *Black and White (*depending on your camera) - please note your colour photographs can be digitally post processed to monochrome / black and white photographs, as the tutor will send a list of legitimate post processing software and other notes after this field trip.

Mindful Photography will also help you to develop, your creativity and artistic skills, and how to express yourself through your photography, no matter where you are or what you are photographing. This field trip concludes with a de-brief, and open chat session, relating to anything about photography technique and or equipment at a local cafe in Oatley. Learn from a Professional Photography Tutor with over 44 years of Photography experience, in a relaxed but informative atmosphere.

What you will learn:

Skill Level:

This field trip is suitable for anyone, whom can use their camera. You will be able to do this field trip wether or not you have a thorough working knowledge of your camera and controls and or the shutter and aperture settings.

What to bring:

Just in case you need them, please bring your camera instructions / guides; either your instruction manual in a paper booklet (preferable) and or quick guide or your instruction manual (preferable) and or guide in digital form on your tablet or phone i.e. PDF format.

Camera Equipment;

Any adjustable digital camera; DSLR / 4/3rds / Mirrorless with;

  • RAW / JPEG image capability
  • adjustable ISO / film speed settings
  • with adjustable exposure settings; shutter, aperture and manual exposure i.e. S or TV, A or AV and M,
  • with manual / auto focus capability
  • also if your camera has adjustable picture control / picture style settings i.e. monochrome standard, neutral etc
  • A spare camera body if you have one
  • Batterie(s) charged and ready x 2 if you have them
  • Memory card(s) x 2 if you have them

Please note; Make sure you have fully charged your batterie(s) even if they are at half or one third, as your camera will be ON for the most of this field trip

Please note; Any adjustable digital camera / digital Compact camera with a fixed lens are fine too as long as you can make some adjustments to the camera (check your instruction manual for more details).

What to wear:

As we will be outdoors these additional items are strongly recommended – Weatherproof clothing / clothing for warmer or cool weather

  • Cool / wet weather warm clothing / jumper, mini umbrella (no large umbrellas for safety reasons) and rain jacket
  • Warmer weather – comfortable clothing, hat and sunglasses, sunscreen, bug repellent

Footwear:

Please note; as there are some uneven and loose surfaces, to participate you must wear enclosed footwear only, no open footwear i.e. sandals can be worn for this field trip.
For safety purposes acceptable footwear is as follows; walking shoes, running shoes, bush walking shoes or hiking boots, (weather-proof footwear is advisable).

Additional items:

  • Own food and water (drinks and food are not included)
  • Note pad and pen
  • Bug Repellent
  • Money – cash is preferable for coffee / snacks / lunch / brunch (no split bills)

Weather:

This field trip will run in light rain, to give participants an opportunity to photograph in fine or wet weather, in the event of a heavy storm, this field trip will be postponed

Getting there: By car Parking options 3 x Parking spaces are available adjacent to Oatley Castle, opposite Oatley Castle there is a larger car park with 1 x marked accessibility parking space available and on the loop below the Castle there approx 8 x spaces as well, including 1 x marked accessibility parking space. *Please check the parking signs before you leave your car
