Loose Watercolour Techniques for Backgrounds

Enjoy creating a variety of wet in wet washes to paint backgrounds you can use for skies, flowers, landscapes and more.

What to bring:

  • 3 tubes watercolour: Cobalt, Alizarin and Cadmium yellow (or bring blue, red and yellow tubes of artist quality watercolour paint). Optional extra tubes: Raw Sienna and Burnt Sienna
  • 3 watercolour brushes: medium round brush with a good point, small dagger brush, medium hake brush.
  • 3 sheets A4 watercolour paper (or 3 quarter sheets) – must be quality watercolour paper such as Arches or Saunders Waterford or you will be disappointed with the results.
  • 2 boards larger than your paper
  • 2 watercolour jars
  • Masking tape
  • Palette
  • Spray bottle
  • Old towel for the table, masking fluid + old brush/applicator
  • tissues – cheap tissues work best
