Learn Italian for Beginners

This course is an introduction to the Italian language providing an insight into the basic grammar, pronounciation, spelling, reading and simple conversation, in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere of enjoyment and no stress. Audiovisual aids, games and role play are used to facilitate the diverse learning methods.

SGSCC Beginners Language courses are Entry Level, meaning no prior knowledge is required. These courses are geared to the potential tourist, business person and those wishing to improve communication with friends or family who have non-English speaking background.

This language course is offered across 16 weeks (2 × 8 week terms).

Course Outline:

  • Ability to exchange greetings and make introductions
  • Ask for items in shops, etc
  • Ask for prices and make purchases
  • Make bookings, order food and drinks, etc
  • Have the confidence to ask general questions and give answers

Materials

  • For students attending Alessandra Italian beginners class please purchase ONLY the following book that will be used for this course and for the following ones: “Luciana Ziglio, Giovanna Rizzo, NUOVO ESPRESSO 1, Alma Edizioni”. The book can be purchased online on the abbey’s.com.au website, or directly in the store (Abbey’s book shop, near Victoria building), or on Amazon (longer shipping times).
  • For John Neirotit’s beginners class you will need to purchase Italianissimo New Edition 1 ISBN 978-0-563-51906-5 beginners book
  • Bring pen and paper
  • The purchase of an Italian dictionary is recommended

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
