Improve Your Fiction Writing

Are you a passionate writer or always wanted to become one but you don’t know where to start? Join us at SGSCC for this creative fiction writing course! Regardless of whether you are a beginner or a more advanced fiction writer, there is always room for improvement. This one-day workshop will look at the Top Ten Most Common Writing Mistakes – and help you to eliminate them! We look at everything from attitude and approach, to structural story matters, to the nitty gritty of writing a sentence that sparkles. If you’ve ever suffered from writer’s block, this may be all the motivation you need to get you back on track!

The day is divided into three parts: Part 1, Before you begin to write; Part 2, As you write your story’s first draft; and Part 3, Re-writing and polishing your story. Feel free to ask questions about any writing concerns you may have along the way. We’ll be writing and sharing activities in a relaxed and supportive environment. Learn how to write fiction, how to write creatively, get writing tips and find out how to stay motivated. Stella is a lawyer-turned-author who has won several awards for her work. Over the years she’s written books for adults, schools, and children, and has enjoyed every minute! She loves sharing her passion for writing and the knowledge she’s gained and has been running writing workshops with the community college for nine years.   • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.

Remote learning for this course is at scheduled class times and sessions. It could include:

  • Livestream video classes online;
  • Interaction with your tutor and other students during livestream video sessions.

Please note: You will need access to the internet and a smartphone, tablet, computer or laptop in order to participate in the livestream video classes.

Face-to-face classes may resume at one of our campuses before the end of the course, depending on discussions between the tutor and students as well as the Government’s recommendations at the time, including appropriate social distancing measures, hand washing and other hygiene protocols.
