Edible Weeds and "no care" Food Plants

Do you want access to fresh, free, highly nutritious foods you can find just about anywhere? Then explore the nutritious, edible weeds growing all around us and learn about some super easy low-fuss herbs, fruit and vegetables that you can grow easily at home.

In this course you’ll focus on how to how to safely forage for weeds, identify edible weeds growing in and around the Sydney area, and get an opportunity to taste a variety of weeds most likely already growing in your backyard or neighbourhood. You’ll also learn some quick, no-fuss ways of preparing and using them.

Additionally, discover some no-care, plant and fruit, vegetables, greens and edible flowers that everyone can grow regardless of gardening experience.

This course is suitable for gardeners / non-gardeners alike. Come along with an open mind and sense of adventure and view weeds with a new perspective.

What to bring:

Please wear comfortable shoes as we may go foraging (weather and time permitting).

About the Tutor:

Alice is a passionate urban food gardener who believes everyone can have access to freshly picked herbs, fruit and vegetables, regardless of gardening experience (or garden). She works with numerous schools and community groups throughout Sydney to help them establish and develop productive, organic edible gardens and outdoor learning spaces. A trainer and facilitator of 18 years she also delivers professional development workshops on a range of sustainability topics to teachers via the Department of Education and NSW Health and facilitates horticultural therapy lessons for intellectually disabled children.

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run ("we try our hardest to get those") . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
