This qualification is specifically designed to give you the right skills and knowledge to work with people, and assist them in seeking solutions to a range of personal and social issues.

Community Services workers work in many aspects of people’s lives and may work with children and families, senior citizens, those living with disabilities, those suffering drug and alcohol dependency, those living with a mental illness and other areas within the community.

This qualification includes:

  • Providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals
  • Supervising workers and volunteers
  • Program coordination or the development of new business opportunities

What you need to know about this course:

  • Classes commence at the beginning of week 1 of each school term
  • Students will be accepted into the class throughout the term
  • You will need to plan for approximately 5-8 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks
  • There is no training during school holidays
  • Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
  • Resources are provided by SGSCC

Course entry requirements:

  • There are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course
  • Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences
  • You will be working either full time or part time in the community services industry

Do you need to complete any work placement hours?

  • Yes, you need to complete 100 hours in a community care service facility such as an aged care home, home and community service or in a community services role.
  • SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment
  • Before commencing work placement you will be required to get a current national criminal record check to allow you to work in a care service facility. SGSCC will assist you with this application process

Will you need to sit for any exams?

  • No. This is a competency-based course
  • Tell us, then show us you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
  • You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 16 units of learning

Assessments are made up by a range of:

  • Case studies
  • Demonstration
  • Observations
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Presentation
  • Questions & answers
  • Research report

To be deemed competent:

  • You will receive clear assessment instructions
  • You must complete all assessments to a satisfactory standard as set by your trainer
  • These are assessed by your trainer
  • Opportunities will be provided for trainers to support students and to resubmit their assessments if required

When you have completed and been deemed competent you can:

  • Progress with SGSCC to the CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management

Course Fee and Payment options:

  • $4,970 (maximum Smart & Skilled student fee)
  • $5,000 (fee for those who are ineligible for Smart & Skilled)
  • Pay in full or by Interest-free monthly payment plan
