With SGSCC’s accredited course, you will acquire the knowledge, skills and experience to be job-ready, with working knowledge of child development, care giving and programming for children 0-5 years in a supervised role.

This qualification includes:

What you need to know about this course:

  • Classes commence at the beginning of week 1 of each school term
  • Students will be accepted into the class throughout the term
  • You will need to plan for approximately 6-9 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks
  • There are no training sessions during school holidays
  • Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
  • Resources are provided by SGSCC

Course entry requirements:

  • There are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course
  • Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences

  8. CHCECE009 Use an approved learning framework to guide practice
  9. CHCECE010 Support the holistic development of children in early childhood
  10. CHCECE011 Provide experiences to support children’s play and learning
  11. CHCECE013 Use information about children to inform practice
  12. CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically
  13. CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk
  14. HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting*

Do you need to complete any work-placement hours?

  • Yes, you need to complete 120 hours in an early childhood education centre that caters for children up to 6 years.
  • Before commencing your workplacement you will need a ‘Working with Children’ check and a current National Criminal Record history check. The college can help you apply for this.
  • SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment.

Will you need to sit for any exams?

  • No. This is a competency-based course
  • Competency based is: Tell us, show us, implement the learning you have received
  • You will be required to complete competently assessment tasks for all 18 units of learning

Assessments are made up by a range of:

  • Case studies
  • Demonstration
  • Observations in the workplace
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Presentation
  • Questions & answers
  • Research report

To be deemed competent:

  • You will receive clear assessment instructions
  • You must complete all assessments to a satisfactory standard as set by your trainer
  • These are assessed by your trainer
  • Opportunities will be provided for trainers to support students and to resubmit their assessments if required

When you have completed and been deemed competent you can:

  • Progress with SGSCC to CHC40213 Certificate IV in Education Support or the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.

  • $1,930 (maximum Smart & Skilled student fee)
  • $3,000 (fee for those who are ineligible for Smart & Skilled)
  • Pay in full or by an Interest-free monthly payment plan
