Gain an introduction to computer systems and hardware, digital media technology and how to problem-solve routine IT malfunctions. You will learn how to operate database applications, maintain IT system integrity and detect spam. These new skills could lead you to work as an office assistant, records assistant or in junior office support.

What you need to know about this course:

  • New students are expected to attend a mandatory college orientation before course commencement. Orientation times and dates will be advised after enrolment.
  • Classes commence at the beginning of week 1 of each school term
  • Students will be accepted into the class throughout the term
  • You will need to plan for approximately 4-6 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks
  • There is no training during school holidays
  • Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
  • Resources are provided by SGSCC
  • Student lounge available
  • WiFi available

  • A computer with internet access
  • Email access

Course entry requirements:

  • There are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course
  • Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences
  • Complete an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine that the student has sufficient skills to successfully complete the course
  • Access to computer/internet
  • Facebook account for private class communication and access to learning resources (assistance creating an account can be arranged through SGSCC)
  • Note taking materials
  • Unique Student Identifier (can be arranged through SGSCC)

  9. ICTICT205 Design basic organisational documents using computing packages
  10. ICTICT206 Install software applications
  11. ICTICT210 Operate database applications
  12. ICTSAS206 Detect and protect from spam and destructive software
  13. ICTSAS202 Apply problem-solving techniques to routine ICT malfunctions
  14. ICTICT211 Identify and use basic current industry specific technologies

Do you need to complete any work-placement hours?

  • No, this course offers a simulated learning environment within SGSCC.

Will you need to sit for any exams?

  • No. This is a competency-based course
  • Tell us, then show us you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
  • You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 14 units of learning

Assessments are made up by a range of:

  • Case studies
  • Demonstration
  • Observation
  • Presentation
  • Questions & answers
  • Research report

To be deemed competent:

  • You will receive clear assessment instructions
  • You must complete all assessments to a satisfactory standard as set by your trainer
  • These are assessed by your trainer
  • Opportunities will be provided for trainers to support students and to resubmit their assessments if required

When you have completed and been deemed competent you can:

Progress with SGSCC to the BSB20115 Certificate II in Business, BSB40515 Certificate IV in Business Administration, or BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Managament

Fees and Payment options:

  • $1,050 (maximum Smart and Skilled student fee)
  • $2,000 (fee for those who are ineligible for Smart and Skilled)
  • Pay in full or interest-free monthly payment plan available
