Certificate II in Business

Are you interested in studying business and yet are not sure if it’s for you, or perhaps if studying is the right choice for you? Then this course is the right course for you. This qualification will prepare individuals for an entry-level position in business administration with training in customer service, communication, computer skills, spreadsheet creation, business record-keeping and WHS. It will enable individuals to enter the workplace in an administrative role within a broad range of industries, or advance current career standing and opportunities.

This qualification includes:

  • Developing the communication skills to work effectively with others
  • Essential customer service and team work skills
  • Planning and organising own work schedule for the day
  • An introduction to simple documents using appropriate software for word documents and spreadsheets
  • An understanding of work place health & safety policies, procedures and legislation

What you need to know about this course:

  • New students are expected to attend a mandatory college orientation before course commencement. Orientation times and dates will be advised after enrolment.
  • Classes commence at the beginning of week 1 of each school term
  • Students will be accepted into class throghout the term
  • You will need to plan for approximately 4-6 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks
  • There is no training during school holidays
  • Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
  • Resources are provided by SGSCC
  • Student lounge available
  • WiFi is available

  • Access to Microsoft Office

Course entry requirements:

  • There are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course
  • Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences
  • Complete an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine that the student has sufficient skills to successfully complete the course
  • Access to computer/internet
  • Facebook account for private class communication and access to learning resources (assistance creating an account can be arranged through SGSCC)
  • Note taking materials
  • Unique Student Identifier (can be arranged through SGSCC)

Do you need to complete any work placement hours?

  • No, this course offers a simulated learning environment with SGSCC

Will you need to sit for any exams?

  • No. This is a competency-based course
  • Tell us then show us you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
  • You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 12 units of learning

Assessments are made up by a range of:

  • Case studies
  • Demonstrations on the computer software
  • Role plays and group presentations
  • Questions & answers

To be deemed competent:

  • You will receive clear assessment instructions
  • You must complete all assessments to a satisfactory standard as set by your trainer
  • These are assessed by your trainer
  • Opportunities will be provided for trainers to support students and to resubmit their assessments if required

When you have completed and been deemed competent you can:

  • Progress with SGSCC to the ICT20115 Certificate II in Infortmation, Digital Media and Technology, BSB40515 CertificateIV in Business Administration, or BSB42015 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management

  • $1,050 (maximum Smart and Skilled student fee)
  • $2,000 (fee for those who are ineligible for Smart and Skilled)

Eligibility for Subsided Training under the Smart & Skilled Training Program:

This training is subsidised by the NSW Government under the Smart & Skilled Training Program. To be eligible you must be

  • an Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/NZ citizen/humanitarian visa holder
  • aged 15 years or older, and
  • live or work in New South Wales, and
  • no longer be at school or equivalent

Eligibility for “Skilling for Recovery” - Fee-Free nationally accredited training:

Skilling for Recovery is a NSW Government initiative to deliver JobTrainer funding in NSW. It provides free certificate, diploma and short course training to eligible applicants. If you meet the Smart & Skilled Program eligibility above and one of the following you could complete this course fee free:

  • Unemployed (with or without a benefit); or
  • At risk of unemployment; or
  • 17-24 years old (employed or not)
