Every day many thousands of photographs are sold by stock photo agencies around the world. From newspapers and magazines to book covers and calendars, websites and greeting cards, stock photos are in big demand. Your tutor, Nic van Oudtshoorn ARPS, has been successfully selling stock photos and videos for more than 40 years and will help you cash in using your digital camera and sell your images. The course examines a wide range of international agencies and their needs so you can submit your images to the best (and potentially most lucrative) ones. Students should be proficient in digital photography using a DSLR. You will have an opportunity to shoot your own photos, then caption and keyword them.

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Select a suitable stock photo agency.
  • Edit and prepare images to agency specifications and submit them.
  • Keyword images for maximum sales.

What to bring:

  • DSLR camera with any lenses you own
  • Pen and paper
  • Tripod (optional)
  • Laptop with Adobe Photoshop loaded (free 7-day trial version is available from - optional.
  • A basic knowledge of Photoshop would be useful but is not required

Nic van Oudtshoorn is a highly qualified tutor and photojournalist with more than 40 years of experience selling stock photos. His skills have earned him the distinction of Associate of the prestigious Royal Photographic Society. His photographs have appeared worldwide in numerous books, newspapers and magazines, including Reader’s Digest and Time. As an accomplished documentary filmmaker, Nic’s video footage has been shown on TV internationally, including National Geographic and Discovery channels.
