Cartooning for Beginners - New!

Learn the basic steps of drawing cartoons. Like all forms of art, Cartooning is an acquired skill that takes time and practice to develop and perfect. In this enjoyable and fun Cartooning Workshop you will learn about the importance of storytelling and how to create your own style or method of cartooning. Through tutor led demonstrations and exercises, you will learn the basic steps of how to create movement, develop characters, and draw cartoon frames and comic strips to tell a joke, or a funny story.

This workshop in which you will explore and experiment with different styles and methods of cartooning is designed to help you begin to express your sense of humour in your own unique way. You will also learn about the important use of exaggeration in portraying body features, movement, and facial expression to add humour to your drawing.

The workshop is designed for students of all levels of drawing ability.

At the end of this Drawing Course, you will have learned:

  • The basic steps towards developing cartoon characters.
  • The basic steps towards developing a cartoon frame or strip.
  • How to create character movement and how to set the scene.

'Michael (Mike) Fitzgerald is a qualified Commercial Artist with a broad range of experience within advertising and direct marketing. Mike who has worked as a commercial artist, design studio manager, art director, and print production manager currently owns and manages a Mobile Art Tutoring Business in Sydney, as well as conducting his personally designed creative workshops in Community Colleges.'

  • To ensure resources are ready for you at the start of your course, we ask you ideally enrol at least one week before the course commences.
  • All courses need a minimum number of students to run (“we try our hardest to get those”) . If your course does not have enough students it will be cancelled prior to the commencement and you will be informed.
