Cake & Cupcake Decorating - Intermediate

If you joined our Cake & Cupcake Decorating Class this Intermediate level course will help you to extend your skills that you learnt in the beginners' course. Join us at SGSCC and bring your skills to the next level and learn about more advanced decorating techniques that are more complex. Be creative and make trendy sweet treats such as 2-tier cakes or naked cakes that will surprise your friends and family and show you a whole new range of possibilities to give your baking the final wow effect!

Learn more detailed buttercream piping, amazing 3D cake toppers, use rubber moulds, stencils and learn how to assemble a 2-tier cake, a unicorn cake and an Easter theme scene cake!
Basic cake decorating skills are required for this course, completion of the beginners' course is desirable but not essential.

You will be decorating cupcakes and large cakes. Nicole will give you a list on the first day of class of all the things required for each additional class so you can purchase it all at once.

Course Outline:

Week 1 Cupcake toppers with molds – learn how to make 3D molds and use stencils to decorate cupcakes
Week 2 3D fondant essentials – 3D Figurines – learn how to make a elephant, monkey & owl
Week 3 All things tie dye – learn to make tie dye fondant and cover cupcakes and a large cake
Week 4 Large naked cake essentials – learn basics of a naked cake
Week 5 Large stacked buttercream cake – build on your naked cake skills to cover a large stacked cake entirely in buttercream with smooth edges and different colours
Week 6 Layered naked cake with berries – learn how to pipe and stack a perfect layered berry cake with chocolate drip
Week 7 & Week 8 These 2 weeks will be left up to the students to collectively decide what they would like to learn in the last two weeks. We will create this around an Easter theme and learning how to construct a 2-tier cake with supports.

What to bring:

Equipment required 1st lesson:

  • 6 x un-iced cupcakes and container to take them home in
  • Packet of white fondant (ready to roll fondant)
  • Zip lock bag
  • Icing spatula
  • Scraper
  • Scissors
  • Apron
  • Tea towel
  • Paper towel
  • Anti-bacterial wipes

Safety First:

Please ensure you wear closed in shoes, long pants and ensure long hair is tied back.

Nicole has been decorating cakes for the past 10 years, both as a hobby and as a business. Nicole is the Founder of Cake It Up. She specialises in hosting kids cupcake decorating parties, ladies gatherings, hens days, baby showers, corporate and team building events through cupcake and cake decorating. Nicole’s passion is to teach others, she wants everyone to experience the joy you get from cake decorating and the satisfaction of creating something yourself. She is motivated simply by the smile on someone’s face when they have created their edible piece of art!
