Digital Black and White Photography - Intensive Workshop

In this intensive hands-on workshop, we first look at the basics of black-and-white photography, including high key and low key lighting, contrast, colour and texture, and see how past masters achieved their memorable images. Then we go on location to shoot a series of photos specifically for black-and-white conversion. Next we process them using using Photoshop and Adobe Camera RAW. You’ll also receive a free copy of the Nik Collection’s SilverFX Pro plugin to use as a basis for creating stunning black-and-white images.

Essential Materials:

  • A DSLR – digital single lens reflex camera / four thirds or mirrorless camera with adjustable ISO and aperture settings.
  • Lens(es) – Bring along any lenses you own.
  • Laptop computer (Mac or Windows) with Adobe Photoshop loaded. If you don’t have Photoshop, you can download a free 7-day trial version from https://www.adobe.com/au/products/photoshop/free-trial-download.html

Additional optional items:

  • Tripod or monopod.
  • Off camera flash with cord and/or transmitter/diffuser.
  • An extra battery and flash card, as you will be using your camera, and reviewing your photographs frequently.
  • Card reader or cord to download images from your camera to your laptop.
  • Your camera’s instruction manual.
  • Notepad and pen

Nic’s photos, including many in black-and-white, have appeared in books, magazines and newspapers around the world. Also a documentary filmmaker, his video footage has been shown on TV internationally.'
