Are you planning a trip to the popular tourist destination of France, perhaps to the capital Paris with its famous attractions such as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc De Triomphe. Or are there other areas that await you, such as the villages of Provence, walled towns such as Carcassonne, wine-growing areas or unique memorials?

You will want to feel some confidence in visiting this country with such a different language and feel you can shop and dine with some familiarity with the words and customs. So, join us at SGSCC for that very basic French language class starting from zero and providing you with the essential French language skills that will be very handy for your planned France holiday. All delivered to you in a fun way and step by step. You’ll also learn the correct pronunciation, French expressions and learn interesting details about French culture.

This course is offered in Terms 2 & 4.

Course Outline:

Learn the basics of the French language and be able to have an easy conversation, ask for the way, order food and drinks or make a reservation at a hotel. You’ll learn the essentials in French that will prepare you to:

• greet people
• meet people
• use food vocabulary
• use numbers
• hotel vocabulary
• describe clothing
• describe colours
• some basic grammar
• ask for directions

Learning Outcomes:

During the course, you will gain confidence in dealing with everyday situations such as:

• greeting people
• introducing yourself
• understanding prices
• ordering in a cafe
• reading a menu
• ordering in a restaurant
• arriving at a hotel
• reporting problems
• asking for the way
• recognising and saying a date or time
• using trains and the Paris metro.
• going shopping.

What to bring:

• Please bring a notebook and pen to every class.
• Handouts are also provided.

About the Tutor:

"Fatima is a French native speaker; she has 17 years of teaching French in different community colleges. She loves the French language and its culture. She often travels to France to spend time with family and she recently spent a week in “Le Touquet ” in the North of France which she loved very much. She provides a multi-media experience for language acquisition, which includes use of video, role play and literature."
