Depending on the setting, educators may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff in a range of child care facilities such as full day care centres, occasional care facilities, crèches and early learning centres as an Early Childhood Educator.
With this course you will learn how to establish a safe and healthy environment, design, implement, coordinate and evaluate a variety of programs and care routines for children, along with a number of other key skills and abilities that will be immediately applicable and relevant to senior roles in active and dynamic child care environments.

What you need to know about this course:
- New students are expected to attend a mandatory college orientation before course commencement. Orientation times and dates will be advised after enrolment.
- Classes commence at the beginning of week 1 of each school term
- Students will be accepted into the class throughout the term
- You will need to plan for approximately 10-12 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks
- There is no training during school holidays
- Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
- Resources are provided by SGSCC
- Student lounge available

Course entry requirements
- Students must be working in the industry and have a current CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care to enrol in this course. Students must be working in the industry to enrol in this course as it requires workplace assessment to be conducted.
- Current National Police Check (arranged through SGSCC)
- Complete an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine that the student has sufficient skills to successfully complete the course
- Access to computer/internet
- Facebook account for private class communication and access to learning resources (assistance creating an account can be arranged through SGSCC)
- Note taking materials
- Attend work placement and be workplace assessed (minimum 240 hours)
- Unique Student Identifier (can be arranged through SGSCC)
- Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences.

Do you need to complete any work placement hours?
- Yes, you need to complete 240 hours (30 days) in an early childhood education centre that caters for children up to 6 years.
- Before commencing your work placement you will need a ‘Working with Children’ check and a current National Criminal Record history check. The college can help you apply for this.
- SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment.
Will you need to sit for any exams?
- No. This is a competency-based course
- Tell us, then show us you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
- You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 28 units of learning

To be deemed competent:
- You will receive clear assessment instructions
- You must complete all assessments to a satisfactory standard as set by your trainer
- These are assessed by your trainer
- Opportunities will be provided for trainers to support students and to resubmit their assessments if required.
Eligibility for Subsided Training under the Smart & Skilled Training Program
This training is subsidised by the NSW Government under the Smart & Skilled Training Program. To be eligible you must be
- an Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/NZ citizen/humanitarian visa holder
- aged 15 years or older, and
- live or work in New South Wales, and
- no longer be at school or equivalent

Eligibility for “Skilling for Recovery” - Fee-Free nationally accredited training
Skilling for Recovery is a NSW Government initiative to deliver JobTrainer funding in NSW. It provides free certificate, diploma and short course training to eligible applicants. If you meet the Smart & Skilled Program eligibility above and one of the following you could complete this course fee free:
- Unemployed (with or without a benefit); or
- At risk of unemployment; or
- 17-24 years old (employed or not)
