With SGSCC’s accredited course, you will acquire the knowledge, skills and experience to be job-ready, with working knowledge of child development, care giving and programming for children 0-5 years in a supervised role.

What you need to know about this course:
- New students are expected to attend a mandatory college orientation before course commencement. Orientation times and dates will be advised after enrolment.
- Classes commence at the beginning of week 1 of each school term
- Classes are not held during the school holidays
- Students will be accepted into the class throughout the term
- You will need to plan for approximately 5-8 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks
- Private Facebook groups are used to share resources and learning
- Resources are provided by SGSCC
- Student lounge available
- WiFi is available

Course entry requirements:
- There are no formal educational requirements for entry into this course
- Recognition for units may be granted based on previous learning, studies, work and/or life experiences
- Current National Police Check (arranged through SGSCC)
- Complete an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine that the student has sufficient skills to successfully complete the course
- Access to computer/internet
- Facebook account for private class communication and access to learning resources (assistance creating an account can be arranged through SGSCC)
- Note taking materials
- Attend work placement (arranged by SGSCC) and be workplace assessed (minimum 120 hours)

Do you need to complete any work placement hours?
- Yes, you need to complete 120 hours (15 days) in an early childhood education centre that caters for children up to 6 years
- You will work as a student (unpaid) during work placement
- Before commencing your work placement you will need a ‘Working with Children’ check and a current National Criminal Record history check. The college can help you apply for this
- SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment
Will you need to sit for any exams?
- No. This is a competency-based course
- Tell us, then show us you understand and are able to implement the learning you have received
- You will be required to complete competently assessment tasks for all 18 units of learning
Assessments are made up by a range of:
- Case studies
- Demonstration
- Observations in the workplace
- Portfolio of evidence
- Presentation
- Questions & answers
- Research report
To be deemed competent:
- You will receive clear assessment instructions
- You must complete all assessments to a satisfactory standard as set by your trainer
- These are assessed by your trainer
- Opportunities will be provided for trainers to support students and to resubmit their assessments if required
When you have completed and been deemed competent you can:
- Progress with SGSCC to CHC40213 Certificate IV in Education Support or the CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
Eligibility for Subsided Training under the Smart & Skilled Training Program
This training is subsidised by the NSW Government under the Smart & Skilled Training Program. To be eligible you must be
- an Australian Citizen/Perm Resident/NZ citizen/humanitarian visa holder
- aged 15 years or older, and
- live or work in New South Wales, and
- no longer be at school or equivalent

Eligibility for “Skilling for Recovery” - Fee-Free nationally accredited training
Skilling for Recovery is a NSW Government initiative to deliver JobTrainer funding in NSW. It provides free certificate, diploma and short course training to eligible applicants. If you meet the Smart & Skilled Program eligibility above and one of the following you could complete this course fee free:
- Unemployed (with or without a benefit); or
- At risk of unemployment; or
- 17-24 years old (employed or not)
